Integrating biodiversity & human needs

Poverty alleviation and biodiversity conservation are inextricably linked in many ways, not least because some of the world's most impoverished countries are also the most biodiverse. There is an urgent need to highlight the crucial roles that conservation and development agencies share and to ensure that the work they pursue is not mutually exclusive.

Credit: Juan Pablo Moreiras. Fauna & Flora International believes that conservation is unsustainable if it undermines basic human needs. We work to identify and mitigate the potential social impacts of conservation actions and develop incentives for wildlife to be conserved in the long term, demonstrating that good conservation can sustain local economies, retain both economic and cultural options for impoverished people.
