Criss Angel sued for divorce

criss angelEgad.

According to the New York Post, Criss Angel's wife, Joanne Sarantakos (Sarantakos is Angel's actual surname), is suing her husband for divorce, claiming that he kept their marriage a secret to help his career and make him more appealing to fans.

Their marriage was enough of a secret that I had no idea he was even married, though it's not as if I spend every waking moment keeping up with Angel's personal life. Still, whenever a girl was by Criss' side on Mindfreak, she was always just credited as "Criss' girl" as far as I remember.

FOX Sports and MLB team up for batting practice

mlb logoQuestion: what's more exciting than watching the home run hitting contest at the All-Star Game? Answer: watching the batting practice for the home run hitting contest at All-Star Game! And online too!

That's what is going to happen at this year's game, which airs July 10 on FOX. FOX Sports and mlb.com are going to have a two-hour webcast before the home run contest starts. It will be hosted by Chris Rose and Harold Reynolds. There is also going to be a red carpet special before that, with coverage of the players arriving at the park.

Vote for your favorite Springfield

springfieldFor a few months now, we've been telling you about how 16 towns of Springfield across the United States are all competing to host the premiere of The Simpsons Movie. The cities have been sending their videos to 20th Century Fox to show why they're the real Springfield.

The city of Springfield, Oregon, for example, did a Bill Kurtis-style investigative report on where the real Springfield is and determined it was in Oregon. There was even a cameo by Tony Hawk! The city of Springfield, Massachusetts had a similar premise, but with higher production quality. Theirs includes a message from Sen. Ted Kennedy.

You can see all the videos here, where USA Today is hosting a vote from now through July 9th on which Springfield deserves the premiere. The website doesn't say whether our voting will actually determine the premiere location, though.

Stump the King - Happy Days

AYYYYYY!Well, I don't know how it is in the rest of the country but the summer is in full swing here in Los Angeles. It's really hot here and the pool is filled with people every day. The biggest indicator, however, is the arrival of the summer reality series.

Hell's Kitchen, American Inventor and the most insidious of the summer shows, Big Brother. I look forward to the premiere of BB the same way that kids look forward to the last day of school. I revel in the voyeuristic thrill that comes from seeing complete strangers behave in the most ridiculous manner.

Patterson joins Aliens in America

scott pattersonScott Patterson, who played Luke Danes on Gilmore Girls, will star in the CW's Aliens in America, a new comedy that airs Mondays this fall.

Aliens in America focuses on the friendship between two sixteen year olds: an American high school, Justin Tolchuk (Dan Byrd) and his friend, a Muslim exchange student named Raja Musharaff (Adhir Kalyan). Patterson will play Gary, Justin's father. He's taking over the role from Patrick Breen, who portrayed the father in the pilot episode.

Jericho producers have plans for a long run

JerichoAs we all know, Jericho will live on next season, thanks to a concerted lobbying effort by the show's fans. According to CBS, seven episodes will be created, with the assumption that those episodes will tie up loose ends and conclude the series.

But as far as Carol Barbee, one the show's executive producers, fans shouldn't be making that assumption. "We are not closing this story out. We have a story to tell. It's a really rich story, and we've got it mapped out for quite a while." she told Broadcasting & Cable magazine. "The network suggested doing a two-hour movie to wrap up this story. We weren't in any way interested in closing it down."

Roundtree joins Speed Racer movie

richard roundtreeBig thanks to our sister site Cinematical for news on the latest addition to the live-action Speed Racer flick. Richard Roundtree, Shaft himself, has joined the cast as Ben Burns, a former racer who now works as a commentator at the track.

The cast also includes Emile Hirsch as Speed, Matthew Fox as Racer X, Christina Ricci as Trixie, John Goodman as Pops, Susan Sarandon as Moms, Roger Allam as Royalton, and Scott Porter as Rex, Speed's brother who becomes Racer X (played by Matthew Fox, as mentioned).

The Wachowski brothers, the men behind the Matrix trilogy, have said they want Speed Racer to be a family movie, and apparently that's exactly what it will be with its G rating. Also, based on the design of the Mach 5, it would also appear they're trying to emulate the original cartoon series as much as possible.

The film hits theaters May 9, 2008.

Still more cast changes for Boston Legal

Tarij P. Henson joins the cast of Boston Legal next seasonEveryone have their Boston Legal scorecards out? Good, because there are a few more changes to the fourth season line-up in addition to those already mentioned a few weeks ago. So, get those pencils ready.

If you recall from a few weeks ago cast members Constance Zimmer, Julie Bowen, Mark Valley and Rene Auberjonois were let go from the legal comedy-drama while John Larroquette was added to the cast. Now it turns out that Valley and Auberjonois will be returning for multiple episodes next season. Apparently Auberjonois' character, Paul Lewiston, will still be a senior partner at Crane, Poole and Schmidt; however, Valley's character, the very uninteresting Brad Chase (end editorial here), will go up against one of his former CS&P colleagues in court.

7-Elevens converted to Kwik-E-Marts to promote The Simpsons Movie

Kwik-E-Mart / 7-ElevenEarlier this year, we told you about a possible advertising deal brewing between the producers of The Simpsons Movie and 7-Eleven. Well, that advertising deal is now a reality; to promote the movie, which is opening on July 27, selected 7-Eleven outlets have been changed into Kwik-E-Marts, in what the chain called its "most massive and complex" promotion ever.

AdAge.com details what's been changed in the promotion, which runs until the end of the month. The signs out front will be different, of course, but a series of Simpsons-branded products will be sold in the store, including Buzz Cola and Krusty-Os cereal. Even the Slurpees will be called Squishees.

FOX moves last two episodes of Drive

Drive

The last two episodes of FOX's Drive - remember that show? - were scheduled to air this Wednesday, July 4, but the network has changed its mind and has shifted them to Friday, July 13 instead. Ooooooo, Friday the 13th.

The first episode, "The Extra Mile," will air at 8pm, and then the series finale, appropriately titled "Rear View," will air immediately after at 9pm. The press release is actually calling this episode a "season finale," so there's no word on whether we'll get a real closure to the series or whether they'll be a lingering questions answered (on the DVD, no doubt). Bones will be pre-empted that night but will return the following week.

Say hello to Morning Joe

Joe ScarboroughIt looks like the rumors are true: Joe Scarborough is getting the Don Imus spot on MSNBC.

Howard Kurtz at The Washington Post is reporting that Scarborough and MSNBC are in final negotiations to make his Morning Joe show the permanent show in the 6am to 9am slot on the network. Scarborough has been filling in (with other hosts, such as David Gregory) since Imus went bye-bye, and has been getting good buzz (though not ratings). Some CBS radio stations might pick up the show as well.

The Sci Fi Digital Press Tour report, part two

stargate atlantis set visit
Something I really enjoyed about Sci Fi putting this event on for us was getting to put faces to people involved with other online outlets. SyFy Portal, Gateworld, The TV Addict, DVD Verdict, Monsters and Critics, UGO, and TVaholic, among others (sorry if I missed mentioning you and you're reading this – I'm still recovering.) These were real fans of television, and they were as excited as anyone to be there. What pissed me off, though, was overhearing a few people in attendance say "I never watch TV," yet here they were, covering TV shows. What were they doing there? Lame. That should piss off any fan of these shows, because this was more than an event to be reported on my the media, it was put on for the fans. OK, I'm done my rant.

VH1 to create Ugly Betty reality show

Ugly BettyAs if to completely distance themselves from their former "Music First" ideology and forget about music-related programming forever, VH1 has another reality show in the works. It is called America The Ugly, inspired by ABC's Ugly Betty, and will attempt to find out what happens when real unattractive, unstylish women try to make it in the fashion and modeling world. As if that experience alone wouldn't be soul-crushing enough, VH1 has thrown in a real-life Wilhelmina, The Agency's Becky Southwick, to guarantee maximum bitchiness.

Entourage: Malibooty

Eric

(S04E03) "Yeah, it was real cozy listening to you snore all night Turtle. And please... tell me I didn't catch you whacking it at four AM?" - Eric

The thought of Turtle tugging it while I'm right next to him repulses me. I can't say that I blame E, but I guess that's what you have to expect when you're living in tight quarters with Drama. As many folks predicted, Drama's condo (which he technically couldn't afford) has become home to the gang... because Vince can't afford anything. Medellin needs to get some positive buzz and as Vince and Ari have realized, that's not going to happen with Eric running around saying the film sucks. The whole ordeal has created this pseudo-fight between Vince and E and so far, I think it's one of the best story lines the show has had.
