Give shares, save wildlife

Whether you actively play the stock market or have never quite managed to dispose of the few unwanted shares you have acquired, it can make financial sense to give away some shares to charity. A gift of shares to Fauna & Flora International could really make a difference to our efforts to save biodiversity.

What are the benefits of giving shares to Fauna & Flora International?

Share giving is a tax efficient way to make donations. It provides you with the opportunity to support a cause that matters to you and claim significant income tax relief.

For example, if a higher rate taxpayer gives £1,000 worth of shares to charity, they will pay £400 less in income tax that year.

In addition, no capital gains tax will apply to any increase in the value of the shares donated to charity.  Note that if the shares have fallen in value, the donor will not be able to use this loss to offset any other CGT liability.

It may be that you hold windfall shares or shares that you have inherited that make little difference to your income, but by donating these shares to Fauna & Flora International you could turn them into something of value.

How do I give shares to Fauna & Flora International?

There are a number of mechanisms by which you can make donations of shares, and we would be delighted to send you information or discuss these options with you. However, we would also advise that you contact a financial advisor to ensure that the gift is made in the most tax efficient way.
