Bashat Community & Business Forum

Since 1999 Bashat-CBF, a Kyrgyz non-governmental organization established by Fauna & Flora International, has implemented a range of conservation projects including the Sarychat-Ertash reserve capacity building project.

In 2004 The Christensen Fund supported a one-year project to enable Bashat to operate with greater independence from Fauna & Flora International, and in a more transparent and effective manner. This enabled Bashat to increase staff numbers, improve its technical and resource capacities and develop and implement a new strategy and business plan.

Fauna & Flora International recently secured a second grant from The Christensen Fund to build upon this success and deliver an ongoing programme of training and mentoring. As a component of this programme, Bashat is promoting the preservation and rational use of Kyrgyzstan’s sacred sites that are at risk of being damaged, destroyed or ‘modernized’ by irresponsible development.
