Parody video puts the high in 'Hi-ho!'
Kermit's sung pop songs before, but not while shooting up and having sex
He was always telling us it's not easy being green. We just never thought it was this hard.
Soon after the untimely death of his mentor Jim Henson, Kermit the Frog spiraled into a world filled with alcohol, drugs and pain. At least, that's how Sad Kermit sees things.
The explicit "Hurt," one of the 10 most-viewed YouTube music videos this month, has Kermit borrowing a page from the Johnny Cash playbook. The felt amphibian performs an acoustic version of the Nine Inch Nails song as the video documents his pain over the loss of Henson, his breakup with Miss Piggy, his heroin addiction and the unsavory things he must do to feed his drug habit.
Another clip, "Creep," features audio created by the author of the "Hurt" clip with imagery supplied by YouTube user G-RaZor. Kermit croons an acoustic version of the Radiohead song, adding a few bawdy lyrics as a montage of images from his years as the "Muppet Show" frontman fade in and out. Fozzie Bear even does guest vocals.
Of the two clips, "Creep" is more poignant. The last image captures Kermit in lonesome isolation while surrounded by his furry friends.
He might not be up on YouTube for very long, though. The Walt Disney Co., which holds the Muppets' leashes, usually just has to threaten legal action to have a clip yanked from the popular Internet video channel.
