It mints money!

After violently wrestling away this post's title from one of our own, this fine blogger began the investigation involving the mysterious pre-order coin for the upcoming sphere romp, Super Mario Galaxy. While it is unconfirmed if the coin is in fact the mock-up you see above, we're hard-pressed to come up with any other designs that might be better than that of the image above.

You may have already voiced your opinions about the design in the previous post, but care to chime in with your thoughts regarding the design? Think we should be tossed something else for pre-ordering the game?

VC Monday Madness video wrap-up 10/8/07

While normally we'd have some more coverage for you past the post break, we can't possibly do that for you. Sorry, but if you watched the above video, you'd understand why we couldn't play enough of each of the games to come to a determination as to whether they're worth downloading or not. Actually, as it stands right now, they aren't worth downloading until Nintendo has worked the kinks out.

Oh, how there are kinks ...

Manhunt 2 still not tame enough for UK, Rockstar appealing

The saga continues, as word hits that the latest version of Manhunt 2 hasn't received the A-OK from the BBFC. Turns out, the game is still too violent for the UK, as David Cooke, director of the BBFC, recognizes the changes made, but says the game's content is still far too violent. Cooke explains "We recognise that the distributor has made changes to the game, but we do not consider that these go far enough to address our concerns about the original version." He goes on further to add that the "impact of the revisions on the bleakness and callousness of tone, or the essential nature of the gameplay, is clearly insufficient."

Rockstar isn't taking this lying down, however, as they are appealing the decision. Fat lot of good their appeal is bound to do for them, as it looks like the suggestions made by the BBFC for how the game should be changed are "unacceptable" to Rockstar. Rockstar further commented that "The BBFC allows adults the freedom to decide for themselves when it comes to horror in movies and we think adults should be similarly allowed to decide for themselves when it comes to horror in video games, such as Manhunt 2."

'New Pack' named: Wii Play 'N Learn

The new Wii hardware bundle discovered last week looks like it's going to be something a little more significant than just the same Wii with included controller jackets, or a second controller. The UPC information has been updated with a new name for the unit: "Wii Play 'N Learn." Which certainly makes it sound like a toy for preschoolers. Or maybe it's Wii-themed playground equipment! It certainly doesn't sound like Nintendo is marketing this new bundle at the older audience they usually go for. Could this mean that Nintendo is switching gears to a more kid-friendly marketing scheme?

Ill-advised branding aside, the obvious guess for what's in the bundle would be Wii Play and maybe Big Brain Academy. Really, any bundle that includes Wii Play('s extra controller) will be very welcome during the holiday season. Of course, we have no idea what'll be in the Play 'N Learn box, or even if that will turn out to be a real product.

Collect scattered pieces of clay, make Pikmin

Oh how we miss you, dearly departed GameCube.

As you can see above (well, we hope you know what they are), the homage to Miyamoto-designed Pikmin characters Captain Olimar and the bunch plucks all of our heart strings. Would we ever like to see a third entry in the series for the Wii?

Who cares what we want? Would you like a third entry in the series, or do you think it's already run its course?

A mysterious hero emerges from the dungeon

In the showdown of Wii Mysterious Dungeon games, Chocobo's Dungeon has one major advantage over Shiren the Wanderer 3: the awwwwww factor. The adorableness of the Chocobo protagonist and pretty much everything else in the game may help sway roguelike fans who are on the fence about which title to buy.

As if the game didn't already overload on the cute, these new screenshots reveal a new character named Dungeon Hero X. Where did he come from? Is he friend, enemy, or both? No one knows (although we doubt he's firing the "Mog Beam" at the poor Chocobo out of friendship). It is a mystery of the Mystery Dungeon. A cute mystery.

Fire up Medal of Honor: Heroes 2

While what we're really interested in with Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 is that whole 32-player online multiplayer deal, we're happy to soak up any and all scraps on the WWII title -- and that includes these latest screenshots.

So let's count the reasons we love this next Medal of Honor. First, if it all works out, EA will be giving us a real chance at online multiplayer in a shooter. Second, the arcade mode sounds nothing short of awesome for anyone who likes on-rails shooters, and it offers a different experience than the more free-form campaign mode -- it's almost like getting two games for the price of one! And finally, even if we aren't the biggest fans of war-based games, it's nice to get something a little different every now and then, especially when it shows this much promise. Don't let us down, EA! Even dedicated Nintendo fans need a little variety. It is, after all, the spice of life.

Furu Furu Park's Love Challenge

We haven't heard anything from Majesco's Furu Furu Park in a while, leading us to wonder if it had been cancelled. Apparently it continues to live, since Games Radar has posted a quick preview of the game. The gist is that even if you think minigames are passé, you may find something to love in the pure weirdness of the game.

One of the weirdest parts of the game is the "Love Challenge" mode. We have been curious about this since we saw it in Japanese screenshots (as pictured above), and Games Radar was kind enough to detail it in their preview. Basically, it's a two-player mode in which the goal is to perform at a similar level. Your similarity-- and thus, your compatibility, is then judged by the game's love expert, Afro Love.

We look forward to the stories of true love being discovered after short Arkanoid games. If Afro Love tells you it's for real after Arkanoid, you know it's for real.

Dojo update: Zero Suit Samus special moves

It's another week and that means another 5 days full of updates over at the dojo. Today showcases the variety of maneuvers Samus can perform while in her Zero Suit, which you may or may not know occurs when she lays the smack down hard. Personally, we can't wait to give her a try in both forms, so that we may see which is better for us. Considering she was our favorite character in Melee, we're sure we'll like playing as her again.

Fresh footage of Umbrella Chronicles

If there's one thing we'll say about this video for Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, it looks like reloading with the Wii Zapper is going to be a big pain in the rear end. Still, we're excited to play the game and can't wait to have a new title in the Resident Evil franchise to play. If you're one who doesn't mind seeing a large portion of gameplay before the title's release, then hit up the link below to check out some footage.

Wii wins the Amazon Wedding registry war

As a newlywed myself -- I traded power rings with my wife just last week -- I'm kicking myself over having not set up one of these Amazon wedding registries, filling our wish list to the topmost edges of the brim with niche games and controller geegaws. I could be playing Bust-A-Move Bash! right now, were it not for my shortsightedness.

Other couples with similar misplaced priorities, however, made sure to include Nintendo's much-hyped console on their lists, as Amazon charted the Wii as the number one most-registered-for item by engaged pairs. Pyrex's 10-piece tupperware set, long-criticized for its flimsy implementation of motion controls and lack of AAA titles, was a distant second.

Sony's 60GB Playstation 3 came in at a respectful 44th place, while the 20GB Xbox 360 managed to sneak in as the 96th most-registered-for product. As for Wii accessories, the remote (15), nunchuk (26), and Nyko's charging station (76) all made an appearance on the top 100 list. OXO's locking tongs -- which aren't technically a remote peripheral, but could be used as one anyway -- sit at the 35 marker.

D3's Simple plans

Before TGS, we learned that D3 Publisher would be expanding their Simple series to the Wii, with the first two titles being Everybody's Kart Race and Everybody's Bass Fishing Tournament. But after the first two entries in the series, D3's already got four more titles lined up, not including Oneechanbara R, which comes from a series that used to be in the Simple category.

The next four games are, in order of Simple series number, THE Party Casino, THE Shooting Action, THE Block Kuzushi, and THE Wai Wai Combat. A Block Kuzushi game actually came out in the U.S. for the DS, under the name Break 'em All, so there may be a possibility of a similar release on the Wii.

If Data Design Interactive can get away with PS2 shovelware on the Wii, then we don't see why D3 can't make some original budget software and market it worldwide. We've always wanted to see the Simple brand in the U.S. There's something refreshingly honest about making the "budget-ness" of a game apparent right away.

Wii releases for the week of October 8th

Much like last week, this week is chock full of new releases for our beloved Wii. There's even one release that was to already be released last week, but had to be bumped forward to this week. There's even a title that originated on the GameCube releasing this week (which we've had some mixed feelings about)..
  • Donkey Kong: Barrel Blast
  • Balls of Fury
  • FIFA Soccer 08
  • Bleach: The Shattered Blade
  • Thrillville: Off the Rails
  • Looney Tunes: ACME Arsenal
  • Mercury Meltdown: Revolution
  • Rock and Roll Adventures

VC Monday Madness: All hail the NEOGEO

Finally, the NEOGEO makes a huge splash on the Virtual Console, offering up three different top notch titles to download. Wallets will be beaten to a pulp, their contents spilled all over the ground and quickly sucked up by Nintendo as each of these NEOGEO games will require a $9 entrance fee. And, with three different games available, that's a lot of scratch for some retro gaming goodness.

This week's games are:
  • Fatal Fury (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, 900 Wii Points)
  • World Heroes (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, 900 Wii Points)
  • Art of Fighting (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, 900 Wii Points)
As always, be sure to check back later for our video wrap-up of this week's offerings.

Wii Warm Up: Party time

Ever since the Wii was released -- and even before -- we've heard a lot of talk about Wii parties. Seems like everyone is whipping it out at social gatherings these days. Our question, however, is ... are you? Do you suggest a little Wii Sports or Wario Ware when you have friends over? Or do your friends suggest it for you? If so, did that happen more after you first got your system, or does it still happen with some regularity? What are some of the most popular party games?
