Confirmed: Smash Bros. Brawl delayed in U.S.

Looks like we chose the right thing to speculate on this morning: Super Smash Bros. Brawl has in fact been delayed for U.S. gamers until February 10. The delay for Japan was announced yesterday, and we expect similar news for other markets within days, if not hours.

There's good and bad to the announcement, however. Nintendo doesn't usually delay games without reason, and as we said this morning, if Brawl needs to be fixed, we want it fixed. It gives us a little time to recover from holiday expenses as well. But it will probably eclipse the release of poor No More Heroes, and that's just sad.

Of course, if we keep getting dojo updates through February, we'll have seen the entire game by then.

2. Well at this point it doesn't bother me because its going to kick ass, which will totally makes up for the delay.

4. In the words of Miyamoto:
"A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever."

Now of course Smash Bros. would've been a great game anyway, but it was delayed for a reason. The extra time is only going to make it better.

(Game of the Year '08 is right!)

5. I really really had my heart set on playing this in December. :(

My biggest worry now is that, because they are now missing the 07 holiday season, they may want to "fix" it until holiday season 08, or nearto. Thats what they did with Metroid. . . I don't want to wait an extra year.

6. They didn't do that with Metroid. August isn't close to the holiday season. Nintendo isn't going to delay a game unnecessarily for months just to get to the holiday season again.

The game will sell incredibly well no matter what time of year it is released, especially since the spring can often be "dry season" for game releases.

7. Sooo...we can basically except this game to come out sometime in April, right?

8. I think we can accept it will come out when Nintendo is ready to put it out, whether that's Feb or next December, or in 2009. It's pretty much guaranteed that it's going to be the best selling Wii game, so why rush it?

I'm bummed but I can't be really sad, I have about $1000 worth of games coming my way at Christmas time.

10. This is good news.
It gives Mario Galaxy more time to shine and it deserves it.

15. You did bring up a good point, though. The first thing I was wondering about was the Dojo. They can't possibly keep revealing relevant things until then. People were wondering how they were going to keep it going until the old release date. I hope they slow down the announcements (instead of every day) so that we are not getting tons of uninteresting information, or conversely, all the information about the entire game.

16. WE all saw what the year-delay did for MP:3. I'd be a fool to doubt you at this start Big N, but that doesn't make it hurt any less....

17. hopefully during this delay time nintendo will add a headset for online chatting, instead of the taunt messages

18. Call Me an idiot for asking this, but, because it is delayed in the U.S., does it mean that it is delayed in Canada too, and, where else has been delayed, and for how long?

19. Not neccesarily, I think, but considering Japan sees a delay too, I think it will be delayed in the whole world.

20. 1. This makes me happy, i get time to play Fire Emblem & NiGHTS 2

2. This makes me sad, Brawl is delayed

3. This makes me happy, certainty is always a good thing

4. This makes me sad, being that this will take priority over No More Heroes, and i won't be able to get that immediately

so, yeah...

21. By all means, fix whatever needs to be fixed. Like someone said. Gives us more time to enjoy Mario Galaxy, No More Heroes, Resident Evil and get more training on the crossbow. But now I think Brawl and Mario Kart Wii will be head to head. Enjoy!!!

22. I've got to finish Zelda:TP, Metroid Prime 2, and get and beat MP:3, as well as Yoshi's Island 2 and Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, then there's Mario Galaxy, which you better believe is now my game of choice for xmas. It just gives me time before I have to take a week off work to play Brawl.

24. They're probably waiting until next year after all the hyped up fanboy reviewers give halo 3 game of the year.
