Rumor: Contra 4 releasing Nov. 13

A NeoGAF poster has put up the alleged sell sheet for Konami's Contra 4 showing a Nov. 13 release date. From what we've seen, Contra 4 plays like a classic Contra experience, which for fans of the franchise would be a good thing.

We've contacted Konami to find out if they can verify the date. Of course, it wouldn't be Contra without two player co-op which the sell sheet says is a feature. Now we just have to wait until Nov. 13 to see if the "Konami code" is in there as well.

Swagwatch™: Metal Gear Solid 4 loot from Konami's press meeting

At Konami's pre-TGS press conference, attendees were given a collection of intriguing artifacts which ranged from bizarre to chucklesome to really pretty cool. A bottle of Konami and Winning Eleven branded water is promised to make you fit, healthy and beautiful, just like Konami's upcoming games. Apparently.

Another priceless relic included in the bundle is what appears to be a dishcloth with the Konami code written on it. Just in case you needed to remember it whilst drying the dishes. Our favourite item, however, is the Metal Gear Solid 4 artbook which includes a whole bunch of concept art, photos of Kojima himself and stills from the game. There's some text in there too which, we're sure, is incredibly interesting to those who can read it.

Check out the gallery below for photos of the swag, including some close ups of the book.

TGS07: the new Metal Gear Solid trailer (script)

We're at Tokyo Game Show right now at the Konami Press Conference. We can't show you the new Metal Gear Solid 4 trailer quite yet but we do have the script! Whilst reading this script, imagine giant robots fighting each other and monkeys dancing around (seriously). Oh, and add a fart joke at the end. At the very least, we're hoping the mech battles end up something like Zone of the Enders. Stay tuned for continued TGS coverage soon.

Naomi: That's why Liquid has me helping him hijack the System.
Naomi: Because I know FOXDIE works.
Naomi: Please, you must rescue me.
Naomi: Preparations for his insurrection are nearly complete.
Naomi: There's no time to waste.
Naomi: Snake, hurry!

Konami unveils MGS4 playable at TGS, Wii Fitness

As Joystiq staffers descend upon the great city of Tokyo for the annual Tokyo Game Show, Konami kicks things off blasting out a list of all the games they're showing off at TGS and, we imagine, their press conference scheduled at 3PM Tokyo time (that's 2AM Joystiq time). Tops on that list is undoubtedly Metal Gear Solid 4 which, according to their press release, will be making its playable world premiere. We're already dreading the giant lines of would-be stealth assassins that will no doubt snake around this game's kiosks.

Metal Gear Solid 4 not blowing your skirt up, Nancy? Well, Konami's got you covered. If snapping people's necks isn't your idea of a good time well, we could question your patriotism, or we could point you people towards some of Konami's other offerings. The Big K isn't even ashamed to reveal that they've got a "game" called Wii Fitness (not to be confused with Nintendo's very own Wii Fit), along with some thrilling software like Pilates, Yoga, and Skin Basic for the Nintendo DS. We know some Metal Gear fans that could use all of the above. Check after the break for a full list of Konami's TGS lineup.

Silent Hill V taking cues from Gan's movie

silent hill
Silent Hill V developer The Collective is borrowing a few Christopher Gans film devices for its upcoming game sequel, according to an article in the latest EGM. Inspired by the Silent Hill movie, SHV will feature real-time shifts between reality and the 'Otherworld,' forcing helpless players to suffer through the ghastly transformations of their immediate environments. Enhancing this horror, The Collective will use motion-capture techniques to model the game's monsters, just as the film crew did, creating vivid movement, like the sexually charged lure of the Siam, a perverse fusion of genders.

Castlevania coming to mobile phones in September

Konami is bringing an original Castlevania title to mobile phones due out September 18. Order of Shadows, is being built specifically for mobile and features a new storyline and original soundtrack, according to the press release (via IGN).

The game is being made in cooperation with series head Koji Igarashi and will feature the Belmont clan. Look for Castlevania: Order of Shadows on T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon and "other major carriers" next month. In the meantime, make your own Castlevania subtitle with this handy program.

LGC07: Metal Gear Solid 4 trailer arrives

If you read about some of the technical issues this trailer was having yesterday at Leipzig, you might be a little confused when you first start watching this new Metal Gear Solid 4 video from the show. Be patient! Though you've seen the first half of this video before, we think the second half will be pretty eye-opening.

We think you'd probably remember it if you'd seen scary metal dog in previous trailers, ditto for Lady Doctor Octopus, Flying Doctor Octopus and the guy who loves rage. Maybe it's just how they murder a bunch of people, but we're getting a rogue's gallery vibe here. What do you think?

LGC07: New MGS4 trailer borked

Interested in seeing a new trailer for Metal Gear Solid 4? So were many in attendance at Konami's press conference during the Leipzig Games Convention. Unfortunately, as 1UP reports, technical glitches concerning the audio led to the publisher shutting down the trailer. "We apparently missed the important half -- everything we saw so far was just repeated from prior trailers," said 1UP.

As previously noted, Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima is holding a separate press conference tomorrow. With any luck, Solid Snake will be in better shape tomorrow. We hear at his age, he has good days and bad days.

LGC07: New Track & Field on DS celebrates 25 years of competition

The Konami press conference at the Leipzig Games Conference has elucidated an impressive feature list for the recently revealed DS title New International Track & Field. The game is a celebration of 25 years since the first version was released as an arcade game. Not only will the new version include over 20 different athletic events, but there will be unlockable Konami characters to play as. The first two such characters to be announced are Pyramid Head from Silent Hill 2 and Sparkster from Rocket Knight Adventures.

All the new characters for the game are being designed by Udon Entertainment and the final title will include extensive online features, including 4-player matches either locally or via Wi-Fi, downloadable content, online rankings, leader boards and detailed player profiles. The game will also include a ticker "news feed," which promises to update anyone playing online whenever any world records are broken via a news ticker across the screen.

We've embedded an ad for the game after the break. If you're sitting in a quiet office, note that it's filled with grunting and screeching.

LGC07: Kojima hearts Europe, wants simultaneous worldwide MGS4 release

Before showing off Metal Gear Solid 4 live for the first time outside of Japan, Kojima-san got up in front of the entire Konami press conference in Leipzig and had a bit of a heart-to-heart with the audience. In English. He said that despite his busy schedule he was very happy to be back at the Game Conference here in Germany. Along with E3 and the Tokyo Game Show, he considers the Leipzig convention to be a central show for the industry.

His love for Europe doesn't stop there. Kojima-san went over to lament the fact that games are constantly released late over here. He is determined to make Metal Gear Solid 4 a simultaneous worldwide release for all regions, Japan, the US and Europe. There's more Metal Gear Solid news to come tomorrow when Kojima-san hosts a separate press conference himself. We'll be there to let you know what's new.

New Track & Field spotted for DS

While strolling through the event halls of the Leipzig Games Convention, the folks at 1UP snapped some pictures of a display for New International Track & Field, an apparent DS sequel to everybody's favorite foray into athletic verisimilitude. Judging by the images, the game is developed by Super Rub 'a' Dub's Sumo Digital and is likely to be announced by Konami later this week, potentially for additional platforms.

We'll let you know what to expect (aside from a heavy presence of tracks and fields) as soon as an announcement is made.

ESRB hints at Castlevania Chronicles coming to PSN

Experiencing Castlevania mania could become a chronic side-effect of owning a PSP, with the ESRB's online ratings database now listing Castlevania Chronicles for the handheld system and the PS3. While Sony hasn't gotten back to us about it yet, its appearance on both platforms implies an upcoming release on the PlayStation Network, not too long after the service whipped out Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

If you enjoyed androgyny poster boy/girl Alucard's romp through an upside-down castle, you might find Simon Belmont's tussle with Dracula to be a bit... backwards. Castlevania Chronicles doesn't feature the CastleTroid level design that's become prominent in modern vampire-vanquishing adventures and instead offers levels in a linear fashion. Of course, that makes it an excellent trial run for our October assault on the dark lord's indestructible house in Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles.

Konami and 2K announce MLB Power Pros for Wii, PS2

If you love baseball but hate legs and players that are more than two feet tall, get ready for Konami and 2K Sports' new MLB Power Pros, an adaptation of the long-running Japanese series, Power Pro Baseball. The new franchise, coming to Wii and PS2 this year, was announced this morning.

In addition to using its gameplay and super-deformed character style, Power Pros will also ape its Japanese counterpart's "Success Mode," which presents baseball blended with RPG elements, the way it was meant to be. We've added a video of Power Pro above (featuring what appears to be an exceptionally good pitcher) so you'll know what to expect when the game drops this fall.
