Here are seven people who used their reality TV notoriety to their advantage. They have found success in other TV genres, film, or entrepreneurial pursuits. Some just found more fame in the genre that put them on thee map.
7. Colleen Haskell (Survivor): Colleen was in the first season of
Survivor (Borneo) and while she didn't outwit, outplay and outlast the other cast members, she did make a good run of her fifteen minutes. She finished sixth in her season but was such a genuine and fair player that when her torch was extinguished Richard Hatch called her a "wonderful person." Using her American-apple-pie-pretty-girl-next-door appearance and attitude, she parlayed her reality TV fame into more roles in both television and film. She did a Blistex commercial and had a guest spot on
That 70's Show. Most notably, however, she starred alongside Rob Schneider in
The Animal (2001). Pretty good for a Catholic school girl from a small town in Maryland.

I did not realize that Carrie Underwood was such a big star. Country Music Television (CMT) will become 'Carrie Music Television' today when it plays her new music video for six hours straight. That's six hours of one video, over and over, from 6 o'clock this morning to noon. CMT estimates it will air 66 times in those six hours.
Carrie's new video is for her song, So Small, from her upcoming new album called Carnival Ride. If you miss the video, it'll also be for sale on iTunes today.

All the recent talk about Ryan Seacrest reminded me of a video that a friend sent me.
The video was shot by a group of young people who took a trip to New York city for New Years Eve. For most of the video, they are trying to get the attention of Carson Daly, who they were there to see. Before the end, they manage to get Carson to glance their way, however briefly.

As my late friend Adam Finley reported last month, Ryan Seacrest has been picked to host this year's Emmy Awards. I'm sure that most of you, like me, have already spent enough time lamenting the fact that Seacrest really has no business hosting a show like The Emmys. I guess the producers thought that after American Idol and America's Top 40, The Emmys were the next logical step.
Well, now the producers have decided that Seacrest hosting wasn't bad enough, there's a chance that he may do a number at the beginning of the show.
Think it can't get any worse? Read on.

Get this: not only is Ryan Seacrest going to host The Emmys later this month, he actually might sing as well.
This is all part of Seacrest's plan for world domination by the year 2019. He's already hosting The Super Bowl and New Year's Eve coverage on ABC and doing various weekly radio shows and shows on E! He also waits tables three nights a week at the T.G.I. Fridays in Glendale, CA. How does the man do it?

Okay maybe the five exclamation points weren't necessary, but I thought that they would drive the point across. Yes it is true, the insulter supreme, Simon Cowell,
will be leaving America's favorite singing show (no not
The Singing Bee) ... in three years.
Cowell will be stepping away from his on-screen roles on
Idol and the UK's
X Factor to work on his music and television production companies. Obviously, there is no word yet on potential replacements. I am hoping for Gary Busey, he seems like he knows how to cut someone down real good.

Ryan Seacrest + Super Bowl = Is Nothing Sacred?
When you think about the Super Bowl, does the name "Ryan Seacrest" come to mind? Probably not. I'm pretty sure I know more about football than Ryan Seacrest (which isn't saying a heck of a lot). Yet somehow,
Fox has awarded Super Bowl hosting duties to their
American Idol golden boy.
As master of ceremonies for football's biggest game, Ryan will host pregame red-carpet events, as well as the halftime show. Super Bowl XLII is set to take place in February at the University of Phoenix stadium in Arizona. And while halftime entertainment has not yet been announced, I'm starting to suspect that we might see a couple of
American Idols perform.

American Idol's season six winner Jordin Sparks and first runner-up Blake Lewis
are hitting the studios to record their individual debut albums. With possible release dates as early as Thanksgiving, America will learn soon enough if the latest batch of Idols are "turkeys" or not.
Jordin said, "I'm trying to mix everything together. I'm loving all the songs I'm recording, so hopefully that will come off the album when you listen to it and you'll be able to feel the emotion."

Antoria Gillan really, really wants to be on
American Idol. At nine months pregnant, she was auditioning for the show in Dallas earlier this week. Maybe it was all that standing around that contestants have to do... but Antoria went into labor just before it was her turn to sing for the judges. Amazingly, she ignored the contractions and sang her heart out. Then she went directly to the hospital and gave birth to a baby boy she named Jamil Labarron Idol McCowan. He weighed in at 6 pounds, 7 ounces.
First of all: good for her for incorporating her unique labor experience into his name in a tasteful way. Second of all: you go girl! Apparently it was worth the pain and suffering, because Antoria got the go-ahead to Hollywood! I'm sure Fox got it all on camera, so expect to see Antoria and baby Jamil next January during auditions highlights.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if American Idol's Katharine McPhee decided to give up her dreams of stardom and just settle into weather reporting?
Of course you haven't, but that's what happened at a St. Louis news station when McPhee, before her interview, decided to jump into the middle of the weather report to give the weatherman a hard time for being a Taylor Hicks fan, and to try her hand at reporting the weather. It turns out it's not that easy: you have to know where to point, and you have to ad lib.

I may have been a tad bit cynical about
American Idol's big fundraiser show,
Idol Gives Back, but the folks at the Academy of TV Arts and Sciences were clearly impressed.
The Academy is giving American Idol its very first Emmy -- a special Governors Award -- for "harnessing the power of television to educate and inform viewers."
Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe said, "I'm really pleased that the Academy recognized the fact that this was more than a TV show."

If you're like me, you're probably wondering -- who the heck is Dominic Bowden?
According to internet rumors, Dominic Bowden,
a reality TV host from New Zealand, is in secret negotiations with a "major US reality TV show" that "will be as big as
American Idol."
There is speculation that Bowden is about to take on the Ryan-Seacrest-like hosting duties of the
American Idol spin-off --
The Next Great American Band. While Bowden has hosted three seasons of
NZ Idol, this could be his big break in America and turn him into a household name.
The Next Great American Band will have its
series premiere Friday, October 19, 2007 on FOX. There has not been an official announcement regarding
American Band hosting duties as of yet.

Their

but being booted from season six before the Top 12 apparently did not truly signify the end of the road for semifinalists Sabrina Sloan or Sundance Head. In fact, according to an
Entertainment Weekly exclusive, both of them have signed a contract with Universal Motown to record a CD of duets together.

Earlier this year, Ryan Seacrest
announced the
American Idol-spinoff titled
The Next Great American Band. The show would showcase the best garage talent this nation has to offer and let us vote for the next All-American Rejects or, better yet,
Doughtry Daughtry.
We reported this spring that the show was
trying to be stopped by the producers of the very similar
America's Hot Musician. Apparently, the plan didn't work as Fox announced that the show, created by Simon Fuller of
Idol and
So You Think You Can Dance? fame, is set to debut October 19 according to
Reality TV World.

According to TMZ, Brian Dunkelman offended a Laugh Factory audience last week by bitterly joking during his stand-up routine, "If wishes came true Ryan Seacrest would have AIDS."
As you might recall, Dunkelman was Ryan's
American Idol co-host during season one. After leaving the show, Dunkelman faded into obscurity while Ryan Seacrest went on to become one of the most recognizable faces on TV.
