1. The question people want to know an answer to:
Will we see the firmware reverse engineered to the point where it can be coded so that future firmware updates won't re-lock it or destroy installed 3rd party apps?
Otherwise 1.1.2 will put another quick end to the jailbreaking and the worst part is that this one even only happened because of a TIFF exploit in the browser that will almost certainly be fixed.

4. I'm sure there are plenty of people that appreciate the work that goes into hacking the iPhone/iPod touch. Just as there are plenty of people that enjoy hacking the Mac... but the Mac hackers go and form communities and don't try and take over the TUAW front page.

If it matters to anybody at TUAW HQ, I'm pretty sick of seeing iPhone Hack related spam. It really needs it's own blog already, and TUAW needs to get back to Apple news in general.

Also just a note the the TUAW writers and anyone that says "just a delay until the next brick from firmware".....
You won't get bricked if you aren't an idiot and upgrading to unsupported verisons of firmware... 1.1.1 WAS NOT a forced upgrade, people upgraded and then bitched about bricking when the crack sites specifically always say "DO NOT UPGRADE FIRMWARES UNTIL WE SAY IT'S OK"

But no people went an upgraded and then bitched, if they had waited until the iphonedev team had cracked 1.1.1 we wouldnt have any bricks.

11. The iPhone hack news paradox: If you think simply not reading the 400 articles a day is a solution to hating all the hack posts, then you yourself can simply not read all the comments complaining about them. The complainers are justified. The complainers about complainers are hypocrites.

It's a lot easier to skip comments than it is articles on the front page.

i wonder how many people with teh real t3ch sk1llz cringed at that last hilariously awful "iphone 101: hacks vocabulary primer" mess.

again, seems like if they are going to continue pointing the average tech-challenged person toward potentially breaking their device and voiding the warranty, they could take a note from macosxhints and at least keep that disclaimer in the post.

15. The problem here is, the complainers are not only NOT skipping articles on the front page they are NOT not reading the article and NOT not commenting. In other words, they are going through a lot of nonsense just to be a pisspot.

Personally, when I don't like the way a site is being run; instead of wasting my time pissing and moaning I find a new site.

This is kind of like going to Taco Bell everyday and complaining to the manager that you don't like the food!

Except, not really. Because there is a difference.

(1) TUAW posting tons on iPhone/iTouch hacking can be justified -> it's their blog, they get to do whatever the hell they like.
(2) But, complainers are not justified because there's a simple way to avoid those post by simply skipping over them.
(3) Therefore, commenters hating on those complainers are justified.


Now, if that was a little too complicated, think of it in terms of shit.

(1) TUAW's posts aren't shit just because some people don't like them. A lot of people enjoy them.
(2) Complainers comments, OTOH, are shit. Nobody enjoys them (except for complainers).
(3) Therefore, complainer haters are justified in calling out those who shit in the comments section, because it reeks.
