Gilbert Arenas admits to Halo score boosting

Washington Wizards basketball star Gilbert Arenas has admitted to boosting ... his Halo score. Arenas confessed to The Washington Post that he has been boosting his Halo rank through fake social matches where he'll end up number one. Arenas says, "It's a glitch in the game. I seen some kids that were like 600s, they won 600 Halo games and we only had that game for two weeks. And all the kids go to school. So I'm like, 'What the hell you all doing?' And they said that's what they doing, two-on-two."

Arenas' gamertag profile on Bungie.net tells the boosting tale in great detail. Just to be clear, this is only an artificial boost, since he was manipulating "social" rather than "ranked" matches. His skill rating hasn't improved. Sure, it's silly -- and damn funny -- that the NBA 2K lovin' Arenas (even though he's the NBA Live cover athlete) boosted his Halo score, but at least it shows he cares and worked for his "fake" rank.

it says his highest level is a 42, so obviously he can't be too bad.
but those custom matches are a wierd glitch, no one even scored a point in them and they last under a minute. to do that like 400 or 500 times.... you must really be trying to impress someone.

Yeah, he just has his friends host a game, they quit and he wins. What a fricking waste of time.

Do you mean the same Michael Jordan who will do anything to win? He's applaud this I'm sure, especially after all of his silly gambling stories like the following.

At an airport, he bet them his luggage would come out before anyone else's luggage. Everyone agreed. He won. He had bribed the luggage handlers.

You can know who he is and still find this to be a non-story. I found it a little interesting, but I can see where someone would not care.

For all you non sports fans out there, let me put it to you this way. It's like if Golgo 13 or Pikachu came out and said they fake ranked their halo profile. I really do not understand dudes who don't follow sports, and then dudes who put you down because you follow sports. You know that you are the exception to the rule if you don't follow professional sports right? You do realize that by not following professional sports or having a feigning interest in professional sports that it does not make you a rebel or cool? Following professional sports or at least participating in a sport makes you a well rounded person culturally and intellectually. Gilbert Arenas is living proof that you can be a gamer and a jock at the same time.

So... you're putting down people who don't follow sports because some of them put down people who do follow sports? Seems a little hypocritical
And just because people don't know who Gilbert Arenas is doesn't mean they don't follow pro sports. It just means that they don't follow American basketball, which is an entirely different thing.

There's nothing wrong with following professional sports, but it's far from as normal as you seem to believe. At least, to the degree you're suggesting.

Also, following sports or even participating in sports does not make you a "well rounded" person, it makes you a person that likes sports. There are no "well rounded" people, because to be well-rounded you have to like everything, or at least fake liking everything, and this is impossible. At the very least, it makes you a culture whore.

One more thing: "I really do not understand dudes who don't follow sports." So you believe that all people should enjoy watching other people play a game? Or reading about the scores from their game? Or listening to other dudes on HBO/FOX/whatever talk about their game?

I really don't understand people who give a flying fuck what a bunch of uniformed, overpaid ball-dribblers do.

See, it works both ways =P.

Following professional sports is indeed a sign of a well rounded individual. I learned a lot about what African Americans went thought due to Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier, following the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB 's economic structure really teaches a lot about regulated free markets and laise-faire free markets, following stats and running a fantasy team to the top does have its incentives. I must have worded it wrong when I said I don't understand dudes who don't follow sports, but what I should have said is I don't understand dudes who put down those who follow professional sports because there is an inherent nerdiness about following sports or participating in them.

That's precisely why Bungie split up the very visible rank and the less-visible skill level for every playlist. Since people are going to cheat anyway, they wanted them to focus on the Rank (even making easy to boost, since you can rank up in the social games), and ignore the skill levels, which really matter for matching people of similar skill together.

The system is working, it seems.

Heard a Gilbert Arenas interview on the Jim Rome show. Arenas says he plays video game 10-12 hours a day and sleeps only 3 hours a night! Don't know how he does it...
