Part I of this article looked at the development of Czech café culture up until 1948, the year when the communist dictatorship came to power in Czechoslovakia. During the communist era, the rich tradition of Czech cafés was all but lost. It wasn’t until after the Velvet Revolution of 1989 that this tradition was revived. Since then, the cafés of Bohemia and Moravia have come back into fashion and are once again at the center of the country’s social life.
