ER: Officer Down

Scott Grimes as Doctor Archie Morris on ER(S14E03) Hey, the previews actually didn't lie this time! One in a row!

The main story this week was the shooting of two police officers . . . volunteer police officers, to be precise. They were certainly the point of tension around the ER. Funny thing is, I thought the fate of those two volunteer officers would be the opposite of their outcome. That's because the college student seemed to be in worse shape than the recovering meth addict (and, not to bring up a debate, but why would you sign up a recovering anything addict for any type of law enforcement, volunteer or professional). Turns out the college student survived and the recovering addict didn't.

Supernatural: The Kids Are Alright

Jensen Ackles and Cindy Sampson - Supernatural
(S03E02) There aren't a lot of things that freak me out more than evil children. Maybe clowns, and bugs give me the wiggins, but when done right, a gaggle of evil rugrats is just creepy as hell. And I thought the Supernatural team got it just right here. That story alone made the episode worth watching, but we also got so much more. Does Dean have a kid? Just who is the mysterious Ruby? Have we put that whole Sam is special thing behind us? Will that little scene from last season where it seemed that Mary knew the demon come back into play? The answers, and my review, after the jump.

The Office: Launch Party

Another day at the office... another kidnapping?(S04E03) You know, I really don't know what to say about tonight's Office that isn't going to sound like the same old song that I've been singing since the start of this season. As I was watching the second half of the show tonight, I was actually worried about what I was going to say in my review. On the one hand, I feel the need to be honest. But, on the other hand, I'm much happier when I don't have an inbox filled with comments telling me how much I suck.

It's quite the moral dilemma. Of course, you'll have to follow me over the jump to see which decision I made...

Ugly Betty: Betty's Wait Problem

Michael Urie, America Ferrera, and Becki Newton

(S02E03) I've been waiting all season for it (OK, just three episodes), and it finally happened. Gio, the rumored new love interest for Betty, made his way into the Mode offices and Betty's heart. While it wasn't love at first sight, Gio made a strong impression on our green girl. Lunch will never be the same! Let's save the juiciest development for last, though. On to the rest of the Mode-Suarez saga!

Grey's Anatomy: Let the Truth Sting

Chandra Wilson and Justin Chambers

(S04E03) "I'm young. I'm a fetus." - Derek

Here we go again. A great episode last week and then we get hit with this weird pile of mush. This wasn't the worst hour Grey's has given us, but it certainly wasn't the best. The whole episode was peppered with some very good moments along with some really bad ones. It's that inconsistency that I find annoying and it's one of the same issues that plagued the show last season. Is it too much to ask for two or three really good episodes in a row before we get a clunker? The truth does sting and the fact of that matter is, Grey's Anatomy is not as good as it once was.

Survivor China: Ride the Workhorse 'til the Tail Falls Off

Great chopsticks of fire - Survivor China reward challenge
(S15E04) "Flavor has never tasted so good. This is the delicatist thing I've ever put in my mouth." - Denise

Hmm ... I believe she was going for a variation of delicacy, but who knows? Unlike some of the castaways, I find this season of Survivor China is stepping up more each week. That is, despite the slaughter of the English language at times, it is.

30 Rock: Jack Gets In The Game

30 Rock(S02E02) "Hey Banks, what are you doing in town...drawn to the phallic nature of our skyline?"

OK everyone, before we even start the review, head on over to the NBC store and order your "Me Want Food!" T-shirts! It's the new phrase everyone will be talking about tomorrow morning at your office. The offices that watch 30 Rock, that is.

I saw the little ad at the bottom of the screen and I had no idea what the hell it was until the writing guys said it as Jenna's new catch phrase. I'm usually annoyed by those little ads but this one didn't bother me.

NBC might show reruns of UK Office and Curb Your Enthusiasm

Ricky GervaisNo, this isn't some programming move to get rid of reality shows (though I think it's worth exploring). It's actually a strategy in case there's a strike in Hollywood.

And that strike is looking more and more like it might become a reality. It sounds like hyperbole, I know, but the two sides are really far apart, and we're closer to a strike than we've ever been. Writers want more money for DVD sales and other forms of media. At one point they were going to work under their old deal until the end of this season, but now things have changed. The networks have been stockpiling on scripts and orders for reality shows just in case.

Damages marathon coming October 20

Damages

One of my older sisters is an attorney, and we've been talking about the new season a lot lately. She doesn't watch much TV, but she's really into legal shows (which stands to reason - I gravitate towards shows about writers) and she keeps asking me if I've seen the FX series Damages yet. I keep telling her that it's really hard to watch every show out there when I have to write about so many. And I also tell her that if she watches Mad Men then I'll give Damages a chance. No word on the deal yet.

However, October 20 might just be my chance to catch up on the show, as FX is going to air a 12 hour marathon starting at 8am. They already aired a shorter marathon on Labor Day (five episodes), but this marathon will include the first 12 episodes of the series.

The season finale airs on October 23 at 10pm.

Blu-ray Disc vs. HD DVD vs. ... HD VMD?

VMD PlayerApparently, we have yet another hi-def format to choose from. According to this article from the DVD Guy at TVGuide.com, a third format called HD VMD is entering the fray from a company called NME (New Medium Enterprises).

The selling point of this new format is that it's a better form of high-defintion and is more cost effective. Frankly, I think they're a little late in the game and won't even get as far in the market as Betamax did.

Kiefer Sutherland to spend 48 days in jail (but not all at once)

Kiefer SutherlandIf I ever get arrested for drunk driving (which will never happen), I would like prosecutors and defense attorneys to come to an agreement where I can split my 48 days in jail into two different blocks of time, so I can blog all day long and watch a lot of TV shows I might otherwise miss.

That's what's going to happen to 24 star Kiefer Sutherland. He's going to jail for DUI for 48 days (not the 30 we reported the other day), but those days will be split up so it doesn't interfere with the production of the FOX show. He'll serve 18 days, then go back to filming the show, then serve the remaining days after production is over (he has to complete the 48 days by July 1).
