Apple Store Sydney storefront leaked

The Sydney Morning Herald has been doing a little poking around the city council blueprints office, and they've come back with an artists' representation of what the new Apple Store will look like there-- a huge glass cube, basically, embedded in the building. A few people who sent it to us (thanks!) said there was supposed to be a huge Apple hanging in the window, but I don't see it. I believe it'll be there, though-- the New York store has a similar design, and the SMH article does mention that big white Apple logo.

It also mentions that Apple is going to stick a huge crane in the street to set up all that glass, and that the store will have three full levels, with the top level going to the Genius Bar. Also nice to see that Apple is tight-lipped about mentioning the store to the newspaper, making them (I'm pretty sure) the only company ever to keep the lid shut on an upcoming retail location. I'm sure the folks from Wal-mart would love to chat with the media about one of their new stores.

Still, it'll be nice for you Aussies to have somewhere to go and get your iPhones, MacBooks, and Cinema Displays-- the UK store has already hit 10 million visitors. Word is that the Sydney store will open sometime after mid-2008.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

1. Awesome. Now they just need one in Adelaide too...

2. Why would they put an AppleStore in Adelaide?
Only Cool People get AppleStores. :)

3. Says you, Melbourne ;) The article does point out it's coming to Sydney.

Of course, Mike, unless you know something we don't, there won't be any iPhones to buy there- none in Asia yet! To be fair, they may be by the time the store opens- fingers crossed!

4. It'll need to open after mid-2008 if they expect us to be able to pick up an iPhone there, they haven't made any announcements about them for Australia at all as yet :(

Thank goodness for the iPhone dev team to keep our iPhones unlocked here until they do!

5. Yeah I'm with Beau, I would love an Apple Store in Adelaide! Each major city should get one.
I don't want to have to go all the way to Sydney just to see a REAL Apple Store.

6. I hate to break it to you, but these exact images have been out for quite a while, since February: http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/07/02/08/glass_adorned_apple_store_sydney_revealed_images.html

Also: they started recruiting internally for the Sydney store a little over a month ago, so it should be opening fairly soon (within a few more months, I'd guess)

7. How about Perth? Maybe? Please?

8. I'm with Dan, Melbourne is the style capital of Australia so we should get a Apple store before Adelaide (The 'perfect' colony). Not that i'm against sharing the love...

9. @ars_workerbee:

10. workerbee I was at the construction site a few days ago, it has a LONG way to go before completing, not before the end of the year that's sure.

11. I'd always thought March/April 2008 was the timeframe, and that the iPhone release would be around that time too. Wishful thinking I guess.

Wonder how NextByte over in Clarence Street will be affected when it eventually opens? Maybe they'll be sabotaging the site! Although they have a lot of corporate accounts and probably don't care so much about the retail traffic.

As for the plans, I believe they were on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying "Beware of The Leopard".

13. And by the UK store you surely mean the London Regent St store? There are a total of 11 stores across the UK!

14. We NEED a real  Apple Store in Brissie too! The ones here - except for the one in the Meyer Store in the Meyer Centre - Quuen Street Mall - are pitiful. No stock, no 3rd party stuff, and no information. They do not know their  stuff, at all. They are like a pack of Galahs.

The above mentioned "store" = top floor Meyers - is like walking into a "real"  Apple Store in the States! They even have a non-genius Genius On Duty (G.O.D.) bar... no tech support BUT they do have training and all of the guys wear black Ts and have give aways! Heh! (Well they used to have give aways). I am wearing my "Hello I'm a Mac." T-shirt. :P

Would I travel to SYD to walk into a real Apple Shop in Oz. In a heartbeart!

15. Perhaps that also means that His Steveness will finally get around to bestowing upon us lowly Aussies the (apparent) wonder that is iPrinting.

Local alternatives are far too expensive. I've even had items printed (as it turns out, in Germany - go figure...), sent to an address in the UK, then shipped to me Down Under.

Oh, and now that we're also getting American TV shows within a week of them first airing in the US, when are we going to get all that special movie and TV loving via iTunes...that is, if there're any TV shows worth watching left on iTunes?
