iPhoneSimFree offers world's first 1.1.1 iPhone unlocks

So, what do you expect to happen now that a pair of jailbreak solutions are out? Why, a 1.1.1 unlock for baseband version 04.01.13_G of course. The "world's first" 1.1.1 unlock comes courtesy of the for-profit iPhoneSimFree team after a tithe to the usual service providers. For their customers who by chance bricked their iPhones by updating to 1.1.1 in haste, IPSF is making their SimFree v1.6 wares freely available to unbrick your $599 coaster. Just hit the read link for all the details.

Perhaps YOU missed the part that says "for-profit" in the actual article.

@cubeguy

I'm pretty sure the "Free" modifies the previous noun "SIM" and does not mean Free of charge. Notice where it says, in the article, "For their customers . . . IPSF is making their SimFree v1.6 wares freely available"

Then which team was doing it for free again? You don't have to be a jackass about it.

Chill Cube, just do everyone a favor and research things before you derive such firm opinions of them next time, especially when such opinions are intended to make others appear to be jackasses.

BTW If you click the "read" link below the article you'll find all of the detailed info regarding this.

Have a nice day.

CubeGuy, people are being jackasses about it because your "Perhaps you missed the free part iPhoneSimFree" comment was very condesending and 'jackass-y'

Why? Who's gonna do better: The 10 guys being paid to do this or the thousands of hackers that have endless amounts of time and do this for fun? That's why digital protection can't win and is a pointless battle on the corporate side.

will this unlock an iphone that i purchase now? as in, if i went to the apple store and bought a brand new iphone w/ 1.1.1 probably already installed, does that mean i can use this simfree v1.6 to unlock it and use it for tmobile? please someone let me know.

Ali @ Oct 11th 2007 3:38AM

Yes, the article mentions that it works with all 1.1.1s irrespective of whether you upgraded to it or if your device was shipped with it. But keep in mind that you have to cough up 100 dead presidents for that unlock.

This is why Apple have stopped people unlocking phones because you have these people making a profit unlocking the iphone for a price where apple thinks they could charge unlocking the phone

lifesuk @ Oct 11th 2007 3:46AM

while you saying that, you have been charged by Apple for thousands...

unfortunately unless someone ends up having a court order telling Apple to unlock phones per request.. they arent going to. It doesnt set a good precedent for being a partner in business with Apple if Apple decides to go back on its "exclusivity" deal and open up the device to your competition.

Nice, way to go iPhoneSimFree guys, hopefully you all are making serious donations to the Dev Team's efforts (ie: to the tune of hundreds if not thousands of $SS). If not your karma will get you in the end. I'm sure there are people who'd be happy to reverse engineer your work and release it freely.

Post is wrong...
The bricks they refer to are people who used anySim or iUnlock
IPSF users didnt get bricked on the 1.1.1 update

Read what you post before you post it.

Steve Jobs only has a salary of $1 he received $646,000 in share options this year that he is fully entitled to sell. So will people stop going on about how poor the Dev Team is at Apple because a few people have unlocked their iPhones that you have effectively paid full price for.

It is your legal right to have an unlocked phone in Europe. As Apple are not prepared to offer unlock codes what is wrong with a 3rd party doing so, at least in Europe.

Other mobile manufacturers have to operate within this framework and you can get their phones FREE of charge with contracts that cost you LESS than the Apple contract.

So stop this bleeding heart nonsense about how Apple is hard done to because a few people want to excercise their legal right to have an unlocked mobile phone.

iPhone dev team refers to a group of hackers, not apple owns development team.

Wait for it. The iPhone Dev team will be releasing a free tool to unlock 1.1.1 very soon and remember to donate to the iPhone Dev team for all their hardwork and effort. Woot!

sl4ught3r @ Oct 11th 2007 4:39AM

I'm sure iPhone Sim Free developed this tool days or weeks ago, but have been waiting for Dev Team to Jailbreak the 1.1.1 so they could load this 3rd party app on 1.1.1

It's too much coincidence it has been released HOURS after the Jailbreak method was released!

Bazazz @ Oct 11th 2007 5:43AM

Well, ISPF probably knows that other dev teams are getting close to finding the solution, so they want to make a quick buck before free solutions are released.

Unlocking solutions, provided by phone carriers, or by 3rd party (for a fee) a common in Europe. you just either buy a phone locked from a carrier store and have it unlocked after 6 months for free, or buy from a non-carrier store and get the same phone, unlocked AND subsidized (sometimes cheaper than carrier branded / locked one).

so, once the Iphone starts selling in Europe, it won't be long before Apple will have to sell it unlocked. won't be cheap, though...

Can someone answer this - how do you install this?? Do you install 1.1.1 and then jailbreak it then unlock?!? Do you just upgrade and then it works? Do you have to do all the iPhone Dev Team tutorial? I have yet to see a complete guide to this.

Aelver @ Oct 11th 2007 5:06PM

I would really like to know this too.

One bad thing about IPSF, they aren't very forthcoming with info. I wish they had a forum on their site.

Chris Wanja @ Oct 11th 2007 10:33AM

So if you used IPSF to unlock your phone original with 1.0.2, do you just upgrade to 1.1.1 and not worry about it??

vote up vote downReportNeutral

nick @ Oct 11th 2007 8:17PM

Thats what I want to know. I used ipsf also.
I would guess it goes like this...
Upgrade...1.0.2 to 1.1.1
Then re-jailbreak/activate (dev team method)
Then it should work? No? Yes?

Or do I have to re-run the ipsf app?

Mike @ Oct 11th 2007 10:13PM

According to the people http://www.freeouriphones.com/ ,where i purchased my IPSF, once your IMEI is in their server you're good to go. That being said, I'm not upgrading to 1.1.1 since some of the apps I use haven't followed.

Chris Wanja @ Oct 11th 2007 10:15PM

Ok I understand that. What I am asking is: after we upgrade how do we activate?? Do we follow the Jailbreak method mentioned by the iPhone Dev Team??? If not, do we use iNdependence like we did last time?? What do we do?
