Virtua Fighter 5 demo on Xbox Live

Xbox Live has been rich with delicious demos lately, and this continues the trend, providing yet another game sample you'll actually want to try: Virtua Fighter 5. We were really excited to give this a spin until we learned the horrifying truth about VF 5: The speed of throws has been reduced from 8 frames to 12 frames! What's the point of even playing? ... No, just kidding. We don't care about that. But we thought some of you might care, and let it never be said we're not looking out for you.

The truth is, we were excited to try the demo but then were even more excited when we saw some of the character names. Sure, you have perennial classics like Wolf Hawkfield and Jeffry McWild. But now you have lucha libre wrestler "El Blaze" which, roughly translated, means "The Blaze." Who says games don't teach you anything?

He wrote the speed was reduced, not the number of frames.

I understand, but it's still a grammatically tortured sentence.

Waves: Reduced meaning it takes more time to display 12 frames of animation versus 8.
I can't believe I missed this going up! I will have to get me a bigger hard drive at this rate.
Ummm okay can anyone say if the demo is good?

Like DOA4 good? Who cares if its reduced from 8 to 12? It'll probably play and look better than the ps3 version.

I hope when you say, "DOA4" good, you mean that hopefully VF5 is nowhere as bag or even close to being like DOA4.
Second, going from 8-12 frames is actually pretty big deal when it comes to a fighting game, maybe not as one that a little bit more slower paced then the others, but still a big deal. It takes 12 frames to go through the whole animation, which means there is more room to dodge/counteract for the opponent.

What a jerk. :p Believe me when I say he doesn't speak for all PS3 owners.
I've got the PS3 version and I'm admittedly envious of the online-connectivity of the X360 version. I'd even petition SEGA to release an online access update if I thought I had a snowball's chance in hell that they'd do it.

Jeez, that's like 5 demos in a week...which would be cool if I could tear myself away from friggin Halo for 5 seconds to d/l them. Still, when I get the chance, I'll probably grab this one.
Heard that man. Teh Haloz is a devourer of time...and souls.

Try to get the Big 3 In Halo 3 then you will understand.

Seriously after the Big 3 achievements (Stepping razor,2 4 1,Overkill)I'm done with it and starting the Orange Box,well problaby I will revisit it from time to time.

I just pray that the analog works well, because the Xbox D-pad will make this game very frustrating to play. Or, it's time to invest in an arcade stick.

And hopefully no lag.

The Hori EX2 is a good japanese style stick for VF. Its got corners that make DL to F motions really easy to perform.

Lots of demos this week...too bad I have the red ring of death. I have a question. Has anybody tried to mark their 360 before sending it in? I was thinking about writing something with a Sharpie on the side of the Xbox...maybe "BROKEN XBOX 360" or something. What do you think? This is my second red ring of death, by the way.
They send you a different one. I marked mine, and in the letter they sent me it said they replaced the UPC.

Most likely it will be a refurb. All you need to do is write down the Serial/Date.

Can't Wait for SOUL CALIBER!!! I'll give this a try but Soul Caliber is still the BEST FIGHTING GAME EVER!

The xbox 360 controller is TERRIBLE!!!! This is absolutley the worst control scheme out there for fighting games period.

I'd take the dated PS3 version over this version any day of the week!

Tekken Dark Resurrection BLOWS VIRTUA FIGHTER 5 TO BITS!!!!!!!!! I wish they would release an online patch specifically for PS3 and Xbox 360 owners of the same game to duke it out; 360 WOULD BE PWNED BECAUSE OF THAT WACK A$$ CONTROLLER! ROFLMAO

uh the PS3 controller is by far worst then the 360 controller. It's nothing more than a PS1 controller with motion control duct tapped on. If you are complaining about the D-pad it just takes a little getting used to.

Uh no, he's right, the XBOX360 DPAD is horrible. True Sixaxis is just a Dualshock without the shock and some crappy motion sensors, but the Playstation controllers have always been better for playing fighting games. Seeing how the sixaxis is in shape/feel exactly the same, it's gonna be better overall for fighting games the the 360 controller is.

Awesome demo but the difficulty is too low as I was able to finish a character in 2-3 minutes. Awesome detail and fun game play put this near the top of my must buy list. By far the best fighter on 360.

Very impressed! I'm amazed how much better the graphics are than on the PS3 version, the look for real, smooth and less digitized, its like night and day! When you consider this is only a port as well!

HATS OFF TO SEGA, DAY ONE PURCHASE!
man the gameplay hasn't changed in 10 years, it just looks prettier

blegh
