Read it and weep HD DVD fanboys! DTS-HD MA decoding is coming soon too I bet. Good to be a PS3/blu-ray fan. Sad day to be in the red camp.

Congrats h4idol! You can enjoy your DTS-HD MA decoding that NO RECEIVER CAN HANDLE YET. Fanboys suck and I suggest you get used to HDDVD being around forever because neither one will win

It still is the flagship Blu-Ray player, and actually one of the better ones all-around. Who'd think that a console could outdo a dedicated player?
The same is generally true of the 360 HD-DVD add-on drive. More or less best of breed.

you really need to get your facts straight- there are many receivers out that can decode DTS-HDMA. my onkyo 805 is one. in fact, any onkyo model ending in a 5 can, from the 605 all the way up the line.
also, it's very likely that the ps3 won't be outputting a DTS-HDMA bitstream, anyway- it'll decode the track internally and output multichannel pcm to the receiver.

actually, xemumanic, the 360 drive has some major drawbacks compared to toshiba's players, starting with absolutely NO way to access any lossless tracks, be they dolby trueHD, or DTS-HDMA. so that's a big problem. also, the toshiba players do a MUCH better job of upscaling standard dvd's than the 360, especially the models with the reon chip in them (i.e. XA2)

As far as I knew, no HD DVD players do that..........I mean outputting the bitstream at least, and I doubt decoding them either. So I went easy on HD DVD and just didn't mention that at all.
But coincidently, there's a new article that explains it all for both formats.....just skip past the explanations of what each codec is (you should know that stuff already) and read that part about what each format does on most players.

actually, xemumanic, ALL the toshiba's can decode TrueHD, and the latest revs (A3, A30, A35) can output bitstream or decode both TrueHd and DTS-HDMA. The 360 is the only HD DVD player on the market that can't output TrueHD in some form.

Not yet.. It's the ol' bait and switch. You thought you were getting a game console that had Blu-Ray as an extra.. but you got a Blu-Ray player that may have games as an extra.. eventually. Still no reason to buy a PS3 other than it's Blu-Ray feature.

yeah, the games selection is pretty sparse . . . if you don't have a 360, then some of the ports are worthwhile (like Oblivion and Ninja Gaiden).
But as far as ps3 only games, all i play is warhawk, and the formula one game.

The cat was let out of the bag a few days ago by some BRD insiders that left tips on a few forums about a firmware update that will allow the PS3 to support interactivity functionality 1.1. It appears that a new firmware is in fact coming. With a scheduled release of October 30, 2007 PS3 owners will see firmware 2.0. Sony’s website confirms that a new firmware is coming and with all the buzz going around it seems pretty accurate that these rumors are true.
It has also been rumored that a new firmware will be released that improves DVD upscaling.’ From Spanish gaming site MeriStation published an interview with James Armstrong, who’s CEO of Sony Spain. While chatting, Armstrong revealed that the new 40GB PS3 (hitting stores as you read this) will ship with updated firmware which will improve the PS3’s DVD playback quality.’
So one might want to assume that the new firmware that will ship on the new 40 gigs later this month will contain firmware 2.0 fully loaded with features that support web interactivity and improved DVD playback. Heres to crossing our fingers.
This would make perfect sense considering all Blu-ray players released after October 31, 2007 have been mandated by the Blu-ray Disc Association to support Profile 1.1.

I too hope that DTS audio is supported it would be nice to go all out when i get my HDTV come Xmas.
