EA Set to Acquire BioWare & Pandemic

Posted in Bioware, Electronic Arts by DeaconBlade on the October 11th, 2007

“Resistance is futile.”  Star Trek fans will know this classic line from the famed series.  It is a line from an alien race called The Borg.  They assimilate everything they come into contact with and eventually every race becomes a Borg race.

Well many jokes in the industry have been aimed at Electronic Arts being the Borg of the industry that simply assimilate all these different studios.  Today, BioWare and Pandemic Studios are a part of the Borg collective now.  EA is set to acquire BioWare Corp. and Pandemic Studios making it an even stronger powerhouse.

“Pandemic Studios remains focused on attracting the best talent and creating blockbuster action games,” said Josh Resnick, President and Co-founder of Pandemic Studios. “As a worldwide publishing leader, EA represents the ideal partner to bring our titles to market as global entertainment events.”

BioWare is currently working on the highly anticipated title, Mass Effect which will continue to be published by Microsoft.  Read more about this acquisition here.

Are you ready for more of The Edition Examiner?  Ofcourse you are!  I told you I’d be back with a look at the Halo 3 Limited Edition and here it is.  It’s time to dig in and make the case for it.

The Edition Examiner covers two important things; craftsmanship and extras.  I’ll use a 5-point scale to gauge whether these types of editions are truly worthy of being called such.

Edition Examiner - Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars

Posted in Edition Examiner, Activision by DeaconBlade on the October 10th, 2007

Time for another entry into The Edition Examiner.  I started this back in August to take a closer look at the limited and collector’s edition of games when available.  Everyone really enjoyed it so here we go again.  Thanks to Activision, I’ll be shining the light on the Limited Collector’s Edition of Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars for the PC.

Yes, I’m a PC gamer as well.  How do you think I started mastering my extraordinary skills?  Anyway, let’s get down to making the case.

Posted in Xbox360Elite, Xbox360 by DeaconBlade on the October 9th, 2007

The days of consoles coming with a game inside are back!  Well, at least for the holiday season those days are back.  Xbox is making sure that holiday buyers have something to play when they purchase an Xbox 360 Pro or Elite.  Both Forza Motorsport 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance are being included for free inside the Pro and Elite this holiday.

Get ready because the bundles are set to be available by the end of this month.  For $349.99 and $449.99, respectively, the Pro and Elite are a lot of bang for your buck.

Soon, we’ll all get the chance to become legends with Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock.  Before we do that, I have some new footage and screenshots for the game that got me even more excited for its release.  Take a look at the legend himself, Slash, all pimped out on the box art.  Doesn’t it make you want to shred some guitar…like right now?!  You can check out the recent list of songs you’ll have a chance to rock to right here.

The Simpsons Game & Conan Demos Available

Posted in THQ, Electronic Arts, LiveMarketplace by DeaconBlade on the October 8th, 2007

There are demos up for the above titles that you might want to grab.  I’ve been able to play both of these games in the last month or so and I can’t wait to get some more time with them.

The Simpsons Game is definitely on the must-have list after the EA Studio Showcase visit last month.  It was afterall, part of my “Best Of” feature.  I’m also ready to get some more time with Conan.  After playing it a bit at this year’s Penny Arcade Expo, I was ready for its release.
