GameSpot uploaded a pair of new videos for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and we must say our salivation for the title gets more abundant and disgusting by the minute. In fact, we can't wear a shirt for more than a few minutes before drenching it in our own nasty mouth juices. Actually, we should probably stop talking about spit.

Itagaki speaks his mind in this two-part video interview



Itagaki was kind enough to take some time out of his busy schedule of making great games and shopping for leather to speak with GameTrailers about Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword. Of course, they grilled him on just why he would go with the DS instead of the PSP (how many times must this man answer this question?!), but kept the piece interesting by sprinkling gameplay footage throughout the videos.

Front Mission DS site slowly explodes into the internet

Two weeks away from Front Mission DS's release, Square Enix has introduced the SRPG's official North American site with a bang -- a drawn-out, "exploded bits hanging in the air for what seems like an eternity" bang. A bang that consists of a five-plus-minute movie in which nothing about the game is revealed.

If you poke around the site, though, there's a lot of material there to help you get hyped up about this remake of the Front Mission series' first title. In addition to information about its setting, story, and characters, you'll find four short clips demonstrating Wanzer (mecha) customization and combat, all of them significantly more substantial than the explosion video arbitrarily embedded on the main page.

Promotional Consideration: Drop Dead Zelda

Promotional Consideration is a weekly feature about the Nintendo DS advertisements you usually flip past, change the channel on, or just tune out.

Though we featured a number of Zelda commercials earlier this week, like Vanessa Williams, we've saved the best for last. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, arguably the finest handheld game ever released, had its share of unusual ads, relying on corny rappers and wacky puppetry to sell the ARPG in the US and Japan. In the UK, however, gamers were treated to the slapstick humor of one of Britain's most distinguished comedians.

Advance Wars DS 2 videos turn the series on its side


As much as we appreciate this first video look at Advance Wars DS 2, shot at Paris' Micromania Game Show, couldn't Nintendo Masters' video editors have rotated these clips counterclockwise before uploading them to their site and exacerbating that crick in our neck? If you don't mind rotating your monitor onto its side -- and when it comes to new media for the tactical RPG, we're sure you don't -- there are two more clips past the break for you to watch.

Zelda Week: Stronger and more braver


The Legend of Zelda: The Light of Courage is Nintendo fandom gone horribly, horribly right. It's a tale of adventure, lazy eyes and mean-spirited pranks against an IGN forum member.

The Light of Courage got its start when someone convinced an IGN poster named JoeCracker that animation company DIC was interested in using his fanfic as the basis for a new animated Zelda series. Then, to really sell the story, some guys, pretending to be Super Mario Bros. Super Show/The Legend of Zelda producer John Grusd, posted a CG "test animation" featuring a scene from JoeCracker's script. You can see that first animation above.

But they didn't stop there. Two more Light of Courage videos were produced, and they are epic. The lulz generated by parts 2 and 3 of The Light of Courage make up for pretty much all the other Zelda fanfic out there. We don't even really know what to say about them, except that they're embedded after the break, and that we hope we don't have to draw you a map to help you get there. And, if you like them, the Light of Courage homepage has higher-quality (sort of) WMV versions of all the videos, and even the promise of a fourth!

Square Enix teases Front Mission 2089


Square Enix has released a short teaser video for Front Mission 2089. Before you watch, a warning: this video contains no mecha. No giant robots, no "gears", no mechs, no wanzers, or any of that. We assume they're in the game (it's a Front Mission game! Besides, the mobile version had them.) but that Square Enix decided it wouldn't be enough of a tease if we actually got to see any big robots.

Instead, we get an introduction to the story, with English voice acting. For such a short video full of static character portraits and no mechs, which advertises a DS remake of a cellphone game, we think it works pretty well! We want to know what happens along the ... BORDER OF MADNESS.

Halo DS validity argued


It would appear that some aren't exactly believing Matt at IGN's Alpha of Halo DS, both in the comments of that post and the embedded video above. YouTube user SwiftShock thinks he has the answer to the whole debate and is of the mind that the game is nothing more than a modded version of GoldenEye: Rogue Agent.

Proof that Halo DS was real (and it's still dead) [update 1]


We don't know what's weirder about the ongoing Halo DS story: that somebody decided to cancel what would have been an obvious cash cow for everyone involved, or that IGN's Matt Casamassina has been sitting on screens and video, and only decided to post them when he found out that people were making fun of him on Wikipedia.

That means that keeping his promise to show us stuff "after E3" wasn't enough of a motivator, but ire from anonymous Wikipedia jerks caused him to spring into action. Whatever the reason, we're now a little sad that Halo DS is both real and dead, because it looked like fun. Seriously, it looks like a real Halo game. Kudos to the developers for almost pulling this off.

The one-level demo (Zanzibar) seemed to be pretty complete, with textures, and music, and sound effects, and everything. Unfortunately, Matt cannot reveal the reason that this game was cancelled, nor can he tell us who was working on this, because he has to not tell us something. Don't look directly at Ultimate Mortal Kombat


We're starting to get annoyed with these "moving DS" game trailers. First seen in an early Insecticide ad, the technique places all game footage either on a DS screen or in a little window that is rapidly rotating and flying across the screen. For something designed to show you a game, they accomplish the exact opposite. In our eyes, such trailers convey a lack of confidence in the product.

We're only running this trailer, which is the second Ultimate Mortal Kombat trailer in this format, because, from what we can tell, Ultimate Mortal Kombat looks like a pretty faithful translation of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, and we are happy any time a reasonable version of a fighting game is done on a handheld. Of course, we're also pleased about the added Puzzle Kombat.

When thinking of content to publish for Zelda Week, one of the first things that popped into our mind was the Zelda rap. But, that is done to death. Other weird and funny Zelda ads, however, are not. TGS07: Gabu Gabu Planet: multiplayer NOM NOM NOM

Now that the major TGS stuff has been posted, the really interesting stuff starts. Spencer from Siliconera has begun writing up impressions of the lesser-known games he played at the show, like this under-the-radar title from Koei. Gabu Gabu Planet is a competitive eating game, but more in the vein of a Pac-Man/Katamari Damacy mashup than the Nathan's Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest.

The game stars four "alien dogs" whose goal is to eat everything in sight. You can try to eat as much as possible, or go for bonuses by eating multiples of the same item consecutively. As you eat, you get bigger, and can eat more.

The game is slated for release in Europe in January as Prey the Stars, and in the US in March (or a month in the past). Check out the video at Siliconera to see if it's worth waiting for. We like the way the simplistic gameplay looks, ourselves.

Latest Dementium trailer is kind of disgusting (in a good way)


We're dying to give Dementium: The Ward a proper playthrough. We want to feel the jagged edges of the game cart in our hand and slowly, lovingly place it into the slot of our DS Lite. We want to brave the dark and vanquish the evil within. We want to feel alive.

Fresh hot craziness in latest Dementium trailer


Mixing in gameplay segments with live-action footage (you know, like they've already been doing), this latest trailer for Dementium: The Ward is a tad bit unsettling. There's lots of blood and creepy women covered in it, shouting and popping up in random places frame after frame. The gameplay, though, looks as good as ever. Seriously, this is one of our most-anticipated titles for the DS to date.

How awesome is that whole wheelchair sequence?

TGS07: Beach blasting with Metal Slug 7


If we were to tell you that we are interested in Metal Slug 7, that would be a lie. No, instead we want to get our hands on the game and lovingly caress it in a candle-lit room as we whisper sweet nothings into its plastic cartridge case. We want to slowly flip through its manual, analyzing every page as we memorize every bit of text and image within.

Of course, we also want to play it (even if some of the screens don't look that great). It's not like we're weird or anything.
