Leopard... shipping 10/18?

What the? Reader Dean O. sent us this shipment notice from the Apple Store in Canada, and says that he ordered Leopard as part of Apple's up-to-date program (he bought an MBP last week), and yet was surprised to see that even though it doesn't come out until the 26th, his delivery date is October 18th-- tomorrow.

Interesting. I was under the impression that even though Apple had announced a formal release next week, they still hadn't finished the OS-- they were working on the last bugs, or QA-ing the last beta copies, or even printing the gold masters, or whatever else you do when you're about to make a gigantic software release. But according to this (as long as it's not just a typo-- Dean says he lives by a Canadian warehouse, so it's probably a shipping mistake), Leopard is currently boxed up and ready to sell. Very interesting. I guess Dean will know by tomorrow whether he receives his package on time or not.

5. Personally, I think it's a mistake.
Case closed. With a yawn.

6. "...they still hadn't finished the OS-- they were working on the last bugs"

How could any company possibly be still working on a product that's being released in a week, just having to burn, package and ship millions of dvd's requires time, if they're not finished by now then there's something wrong with Apple.

7. Stephen: you don't really understand how these things work, do you? They're not done yet. Everything won't be in place until the 26th at 5:00PM Pacific. But it will all fall together :)

8. Guys gotta read better... says delivers ON October 26th. So you'll have it then. :)

9. **Yawn**

Seriously, does a team of monkeys put out TUAW?

Then again, maybe I shouldn't complain: at least it's not the 600th useless iPhone story of the week.

10. well... we're assuming a lot here... all he's got to do is check the tracking number to see if indeed there is a package coming :)

i agree with stephen... to deliver by the 26th, they had a lot of work to do by now... this thing was 'mastered' some time ago if you ask me

11. Ill let you guys know tomorrow!

Posted at 9:51PM on Oct 17th 2007 by Dean Ostetto

12. The tracking number isnt a real tracking number it just brings me to Apple's website, and shows me the order history.

13. Apple's shipping is false, i ordered my 24" iMac with a 2 to 3 days shipping on it, said it would ship on the third day, but kept pushing back for like 3 weeks until it shipped.

14. Why did this fellow post this *before* he got the shipment?

If there really is a Leopard box on its way to Canada via Airborne Express, I'm sure that Steve is going to stop it. A quick call to the CEO, explaining that they'd better not deliver the package if they ever want to ship another Apple product again should fix it.

I'm curious though - why is the carrier listed as Airborne? Airborne Express was bought by DHL about four years ago...

15. I swear.. why do people take the time to write "**Yawn**" and complain about monkeys running this site? If you dont like it, read something else. I swear if I ran a blog like this, I'd honestly ban anyone who use "yawn", "First post", "old news", etc etc....

16. This won't arrive tomorrow. He won't get it until a few days after the 26th

Posted at 10:48PM on Oct 17th 2007 by Paul

17. Interestingly, I selected standard 5 day shipping. It said delivers by the 26th and I though good luck. My shipping got automatically upgraded to priority overnight on the orders site today for free. Go apple! Sounds like they will need right up to the last minute to get this baby ready for delivery... ;)

18. 1) I *KNOW* where it's being replicated and it'll be kitted in Mexico (boxes, documentation, etc).

2) There may be quantity of product available as early as today... There's absolutely NO WAY the product will be available and in anyone's hands as finished goods tomorrow. No way. No how.

19. Why is a student copy more expensive at Apple.com than the retail version on Amazon.com?

Posted at 1:32AM on Oct 18th 2007 by Joe

20. Question if I ordered a Mac say on the 24th, it would ship with 10.4, would I still have to pay the $9.95 for shipping of Leopard? I mean it wouldn't arrive until after the 26th.

I can see them charging for refurbs, but seriously if you buy one in the store after the 26th they should through in Leopard...even if the computer itself was delivered to the store before the 26th... At least that is the impression I got from reading the website on upgrading to Leopard.
