X3F rant: TF2 needs times limits, please!
We're not much for rants here at X3F, but every once in a while rants must be made. This rant is about the multiplayer FPS du jour, Team Fortress 2. This rant goes out to everyone who thinks it might be a good idea to set up a game of Team Fortress 2 with no time limit. For the sake of all that is good, do not do this. Please.
Assuming both teams have attackers and defenders, it sounds like a good idea, because no one wants a game cut short prematurely. In practice though, it can turn into an unending nightmare. Imagine, if you will, a team of three Engineers and three Demomen. Lots of sticky bombs, lots of turrets, and no one on offense. Sure, the intelligence never gets capped, but no one is capturing the enemy intelligence either. Faced with a turtling team, you might try and play offense by yourself, but you'll quickly be murdered. You can feel free to repeat this ad nauseam, because the game will not end. With no time limit, there is no impetus to make attack runs and actually score points.
So please, turn on some kind of time limit. Even if it doesn't add more suspense to the game and more urgency to your strategy -- which it should -- it will at least ensure that the game will end at some point. Honestly, this goes for any objective game type in any game, so feel free to apply it to Halo 3 or whatever you like to play. Thanks for reading. We hope this makes your game more enjoyable.

(Page 1)2. i think they know what everyone is playing. halo 3, Orange Box, GHIII demo, and halo 3
3. You're not much for rants at X3F. I am sorry Richard but that is just not true. One word will make you remember the last rant you featured in your great range of X3F products. Yaris. Dustin remembers.
4. can anyone tell me why there is no deathmatch
am I the only one that thinks this is a huge huge oversite
5. see, that does happen from time to time, but since after a while people change class *shrugs* I prefer no time limits personally

7. @ #4, this is a "Team " base game. Which means you have classes to choose from to play as part of a "team"
8. @7 Yeah, it'd seem weird to be lacking team components when part of the game title is "Team" :p
9. In the hypothetical presented above, I'd go spy, disguise as a demo (so it doesn't seem wierd that I'm not camping a sentry), and stab the hell out of everybody. They'd need at least one of 'em to go pyro, at which point we could mob 'em with soldiers. The great thing about TF (1, C, or 2) is that there's a strategy for every situation. Of course, the trick is to figure them out.
10. you can always just join/host a game with time limits...
too logical? what am i saying

11. http://download.gamevideos.com/Podcasts/101907.mp3 unrelated to this but check this out regarding bioware and halo
12. It also needs rumble. Really badly.
It also would be amazing if it had matchmaking, but of course that won't happen.
By the way, if you guys need someone to play TF2 with, add me:
gamertag: zackinyour-pants
Take the - out. no spaces.
13. This game needs the respawn set back to instant like TFC. 12 second respawn is absolutely ridiculous considering the frantic, absurd gameplay is what made everyone play the 1st. Now,it's turned into a slow shooter because of 19 hour respawn.
14. @3 - I think the best way to phrase this is Richard is not prone to rants. Dustin... well, that's a different story :) YARIS!
15. Knuckles and I just finished a match like this, and it was awesome. :)
16. TF2 is definitely a PC game. It is something I've noticed between PC and console games. Multiplayer console games tend to be quicker sessions that the winner is decided within a couple minutes. PC multiplayer games can take an hour just for one round.
I've played Call of Duty on PC and Xbox. PC rounds are set for an hour while on console they are more like 15 minutes max.
I have TF2 for PC and when you get a full game with 24 people, the match will last the full hour. I've become so used to the quick games on console, that these hour long marathons are really starting to bother me.
17. When I host at night it's 0 time limit. During the day, while I'm working I set it to 30 minutes. TURBOFC3S
18. I've come to realize that I'm better off buying this for my PC. Better control, better multiplayer and mod support.
19. ^^ wow, that's really great. we all absolutely love the fact that you like your pc better. really. i mean it. please tell us more....

20. Has anyone noticed that there is zero auto-aim in this game? Close encounters often involve two guys running in circles frantically with shotguns hoping to get lucky and actually shoot the other guy.
