The big games left for 2007

We've already had some of the big bombshells of 2007 come out already, including the big boys like Halo 3, Heavenly Sword, and Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction ... but what's still coming down the pipeline? Guitar Hero III will be out tomorrow, and the rest of October and all of November are bringing a ton of great games out for every platform from the Xbox 360 to the Nintendo DS.

Megatonik has put together a great list, chock full of release dates and goodies, or what's left in store for the rest of this year. Chances are once these games start dropping, you're not going to have much left in your wallet for the holidays. So it's time to start figuring out where you're going to get that cash from and get your game on.

I think its time to sell some organs so i can have the money for some of these.

I don't need two kidneys anyway, the left one always slacks off, watches reruns of the office and eats all my pringles.
Sadly game industries don't take organs anymore after the Halo 3 mountain dew campaign; they say gamers aren't "healthy" donors Phff.

Well you can always sell your right eye for a bunch of yu-gi-oh cards

anyone notice how the Wii is getting almost no love (not even rock band)? that concerns me, I have a Wii and a PS3...

Here is what is coming out.
Wii: 4
PS3: 11
Xbox: 9
PSP: 3
DS: 3

I would really like to try mass effect... maybe I'll swap PS3 with 360 with someone for that game.

you could swap ps3 for 360 at gamestop (or another retailer) probably, but not many 360 owners would want to trade for a ps3. not until mgs comes out at least

I bet you could trade it for the Xbox RROD SKU.

I'm finally getting my 360 back Monday...then I can finish Halo 3 and Eternal Sonata.

lol i love how he mentions heavenly sword and ratchet and clank as the big boys. hahaha what a joke. how bout take every ps3 game that has come out or will come out in 2007, and add its sales together. it wont even be equal to what halo 3 will sell. dont even try to mention those shitty games in the same sentence as halo as being the big boys in games. when are they gonna get actual gamers to write these articles.

Don't you love how shagg continues to lie and pretend like he actually owns a Wii or a 360..

"RROD sku" lolz...yeah thats clever.

Think about how pathetic your ps3 is doing compared the Wii and the 360 despite RRoD and then let me see you laugh.

I meant swap temporarily, a few weeks or so. don't feel like getting raped at retail, plus I enjoy my PS3. Wife says I have enough video games already so I can't get a 360... or a PSP for Disgaea :( (have 2 DS')

Crysis demo is out, which you guys neglected to post.

It's kind of funny. I'm in love with and surprised by the quality of the gameplay. The graphics are pretty good, running at the higher settings offered on Windows XP, but compared to UT 3 which looks nearly as beautiful with 3 times the framerate, it seems needlessly bloated.

Slightly more on topic: My gaming costs for this month will come to: $289.95

I just added it all into my cart on amazon. Gears of War, Unreal 3, Crysis, Hellgate: London, Guitar Hero III. November is a great month to have a birthday this year.

Unreal Tournie does look lovely (the demo didn't even feature the top 4th and 5th detail levels), but nowhere near as nice as Crysis.

UT3 features an excessive amount of bloom, DoF and other over-the-top that seem to come as standard with unreal engine 3 games.

Crysis however features massive amounts of subtle effects, super realistic post processing and amazing animation that really takes the cake for me.

Dont get me wrong, UT3 is going to be the better game by far, but crysis will hold the "sexiest graphics" award for an unfortunately looong time to come.

Im a framerate junkie. So I'm biased towards the 85 FPS I'm getting in Unreal (1600x1200), with nearly-as-good, and, imho, stylistically better graphics over the 35 FPS I'm getting in Crysis at 1152x864. I expect Crysis to become much more beautiful once tweakguides breaks it down for me, though.

But yeah, props for appreciating Unreal. A singleplayer trailer is up today, too. It looks surprisingly awesome; Epic learned a lot making Gears, and I'm sure the singleplayer for Unreal will take it even farther-- regardless of if I'd have fronted 50$ regardless of its existence.

The main difference between UT3's and Crysis' graphics is the art direction. UT3 has fantastic art direction coupled with a strong engine. Crysis has a pretty standard art direction, but the engine is extremely powerful. So Crysis has better graphics, but UT3 has better art.

Back on Topic: I'm personally looking forward to Haze. It might actually make me buy a PS3 if it doesn't come out for PC.

Yep, I fully agree with the framerate issue. I don't care how great a game looks, if it runs at 20-30 framerate and at a lousy resolution, I don't want it. UT3 ran great, (even though I can't validate a purchase for updated graphics and seemingly nothing else) Crysis..not so much.
2 hearts vote downvote upReport
If we look beyond the basic graphics, Crysis is far more advanced and satisfying on other levels, particularly the insane physics engine. No more ragdolls, but realistic corpse animation. No more things getting blown around like leaves on the wind with explosions, but each item has its own weight and is treated as such realistically. Objects dropped don't bounce around, like guns, like in other games, they behave like a dropped rifle would. Items that aren't round don't fly down inclines like they were balls, forces of friction actually work.

The art direction of UT3 may be better, but the Crysis engine is superior on a more tangible level.
2 hearts vote downvote upReport
Also, show me where in UT3 you can punch a turtle to death. That alone makes Crysis better than UT3, it pisses PETA off. Not my PETA (People who Eat Tasty Animals) but the other one.

Wait, I was sure UT3 was the Gears of War sequel. After watching the singleplayer trailer, they look IDENTICAL. Same shades of color and even the characters have the same look and feel (especially their body built).

Crysis might look like Far Cry but at least I didn't play Far Cry last year like I did GoW. Crysis FTW.
That said, even though I'm buying it on release day, I'm not playing the singleplayer campaign until I've bought my new machine. (nVidia, hurry up with your next generation cards, will y'a?)

Played Crysis demo for abt 2 hours today. I was barely crawling by at 30fps at 1680x1050 everything on high but no AA. This is on a 3ghz quad core, 8800gtx @ ultra speeds and 2gb ram w/ XP not vista. UT3 which is better looking imho runs at 80fps with 16AF and 4AA. UT3 was using all 4 cores and crysis only used 2. Played like Far Cry and brought nothing new to the table.

Gamerdad -

Did you upgrade to the new Nvidia Beta drivers? I'm running it at 1280x1024 resolution with everything on and 4xFSAA and getting 50fps average with the same card. You on Vista or XP? I have a feeling the DX10 makes a huge difference in Crysis. DX10 is meant to put more on the screen with fewer resources.

Gamerdad : I'm really having a hard time beleiving you. By the way, Crysis supports quad core :
http://www.shacknews.com/featuredarticle.x?id=639
"Cevat Yerli: We support both 64-bit and multi-cores. Multi-core will be beneficial in the experience, particularly in faster but also smoother framerates. 64-bit and higher memory will yield quicker loading times. We recommend quad core over higher clock."

Speaking of Crysis... Is everyone aware that the demo is now out? I just find it a bit odd that Joystiq haven't reported on it all day.

Played it through. I'm surprised how well it runs. I was expecting it to bring my 8800GTX to its knees, but it actually runs just as well as HL2: Ep2 on my system. Outstanding programming here, they really did DX10 well.

Mario is all about the embracement of campery; jumping like a buffoon in a shiny world collecting shiny things, finding a princess, dressing up (sorry, 'power ups'). Wanting to reach for the stars is hardly gay though. We all want to 'Star get.'

Especially in japan, where most things are cute, the stereotype is hard gay who looks like an exhibitionist S&M; goth.

I've plopped down ยฃ55 for both Galaxy and Prime 3. still on preorder, damn you Wii, why can't you be as unpopular as the Cube so I don't have to sit around waiting for stock :(

Jury is still out on other games. Orange Box is pretty much the best slice of "real" gaming I'll be having for a while whilst the Wii gives me console games.
Still need to buy Super Metroid too. I hear it's very very good.

I know, i'm obsessing, but we have to support these colorful games, they're so rare now...

The main reason why people aren't supporting Nights, is because of the decision to continue to use the analog stick for controls as opposed to the motion sensing. Granted it may still be good, but lots of dreams were crushed with that announcement.

Good gameplay is kind of a given with NiGHTS (so long as Sega doesn't fuck it up).
I'll be buying it and I'm glad it's colorful. Too many games are brown and gray. I prefer my games to be all shiny and happy looking, anyway. Between Super Mario Galaxy, NiGHTS and Zack & Wiki, it's like a color overload this Christmas.

And speaking of which, that list left off Zack & Wiki, which is a travesty. This and Portal are serious dark horse candidates for Game of the Year.

"Good" is implied when i said "support colorful games"

I mean, Cooking Mama: Cook Off was colorful, and so was Sonic the Hedgehog 2006

I'm just tired of seeing every single big game be composed of all these washed-out tones, Halo 3 could be considered colorful compared to, say, Gears of War

I know your pain. I'm skint because just spent any money in the bank on student accomodation, so unfortunately only at christmas (I'll also have to revise though) will I be able to get a game (Galaxy definitely, and maybe check out what VC has new in the 4 months), and then at my birthday or cheap during the summer.

Finish games, then trade them for other games. At least, that seems to be the only way to affordably play most games.

(as for me, I can't even afford most of the consoles, so I'm stuck with DS and PC games. (likely only orange box for PC though, because of sheer value.)

Even so, planning to get the Wii. I've a LOT of Gamecube games to catch up with, which should be more than enough to last through the likely summer drought of next year.

To the UT3 versus Crysis arguement: Hashbrown_Hunter is dead on. UT3 has the GoW-esque art style to it, which i'm personally not entirely won over by, but its certainly a far more stylish game. Crysis just has that rediculous realism to it.

Also i'm looking forward to assasins creed after seeing a few gameplay walkthroughs. While it still seems to have its issues (only one guy attacks you at a time), and its certain to have its obvious gameplay flaws because of how different the gameplay is (i wager you can do the entire game just by running away 1 foot in front of the massive army of guards behind you...seriously...i bet its doable), that game still looks really polished in its animation and style and i'm actually looking forward to it...despite having argued for the past year to my friends that it just looks like thief 3 + melee + HDTV.

Oh well, should be a pretty good end to the year, but mostly my PC is getting the attention tbh. I've given up on console gaming a little bit since i just sold my PS3 (worst purchase i ever made) and my 360 just popped a RROD >.
