Feadship's F-Stream

At the Monaco Boat Show, Feadship showed off the design of the F-stream their 55-meter luxury yacht. The F-Stream seems to reflect where the yacht business is heading, away from the blockier ttri-deck model and into a slimmer, more streamlined design. The F-stream uses a hybrid propulsion system with two dieselelectric cycloidal propulsion-rudder systems that offer silent cruising and in passive mode – can also serve as rudders. The fully submerged axial water jets also help increase the speed of the yacht. On the F-stream the master stateroom is located aft on the bridge deck and has a private sun deck. The top deck has solar panels and a getaway area called the Snug, a cozy little nook in which to enjoy the view. The low open "beach" deck has two water recreation areas. The design reminds me a bit of the new design from Humphreys and also the Ferretti 630 with sleek looks that put the focus on the year of the yacht.

The Most Expensive Megayachts

If having a yacht of your own doesn't work for you then chartering one is the next best thing (or maybe it's better? None of the hassles of ownership!) there are lots of choices out there. What amenities are important to you? Where do you want to go? The options are endless, and if money is no object then the luxuries can be too. Ever had the chance to experience any of these megayachts? They're some of the most expensive out there available for charter, and I think they all sound awesome:

River Cities Condos

I've seen cruise ships on the ocean offering condos before (a trend that seems to have begun with Residensea) but this is the first time I have seen condo boats for river cruising. River Cities Condos is selling floating condos that will travel through the intracoastal waterways of the U.S. Amenities include a grocery store, restaurants, concierge service, a rooftop lounge, theaters, activity rooms, a library, hot tubs and pools, fitness equipment, walking tracks, a rooftop chipping course and even fishing. The condos range from studios to two bedrooms and cost between $161,000 and $499,000. Shared expenses for the staff of 30 range from $6,700 to $23,100.

Tribu, Luciano Benetton's Green Yacht

For many billionaires living lavish is increasingly also meaning living green. The Independent profiles Luciano Benetton and his "green" yacht. Tribu, as shown here photographed by MonacoEye.com, is a 50-meter (164 feet) yacht which is the first private yacht to be awarded a "Green Star" certificate of environmental efficiency. In order to earn the certificate a yacht has to have special equipment for the elimination of waste water and rubbish, the separation of different types of trash and the elimination of emissions that damage the ozone layer. The ship is designed for exploration, to be able to sail everywhere but also be comfortable because Benetton is planning an around the world voyage. The ship also has its luxurious side. The ship, designed by architect Piero Lissoni, is outfitted with Jacuzzis, marble floors, a grand piano and a gourmet kitchen.

Humphreys Yacht Design Concept

Superyacht Times has a piece on this wild design, a new 246-foot concept developed by Humphreys Yacht Design for Devonport Yachts. The yacht has a fully glazed atrium that spans the entire width of the yacht and creates a passive heating/cooling system. The atrium is surrounded by automatically operated louvers. The atrium space allows the sun's rays to enter the yacht in cool climates and traps the heat behind thermally efficient glass. In warmer climates a solar chimney effect works to draw in cool air at sea level. The warm air escapes from the top of the superstructure. The owner's stateroom features viewing wings at the bow creating a unique sea view. The yacht is also being developed to use the SkySails wind power system, a method of using kite propulsion to tow the boat.

Crystal Cruises Ultimate Vintage Room Dinner

How's this for a booze cruise, sampling a nearly impossible-to-get 1961 German Riesling and a 1959 Chateau Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac and five other rare wines while cruising from Istanbul to Athens. Crystal Cruises' second Ultimate Vintage Room Dinner will take place on Crystal Serenity's October 6, 2007 voyage from Istanbul to Athens. The seven wines are Krug, Vintage Brut, Reims, France 1990 - Riesling, Auslese, Wehlener Sonnenuhr, J.J. Prum, Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Germany 1961 - Chevalier-Montrachet, Grand Cru, Domaine Leflaive, Burgundy, France 1998 - Barbaresco, Angelo Gaja, Piedmont, Italy 1989 - Chateau Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac, Bordeaux, France 1959 - Grange Hermitage, Penfolds, South Australia 1986 - Graham's Vintage Port, Portugal 1955. The seven-course menu features warm oriental duck salad; Goutte d'or, coriander and ginger; steamed scallops Maitre Lurkin; risotto al funghi; mignon of angus beef, shallot sauce, market vegetables; vacherin cheese; and mille-feuilles with red berries and cardamom ice cream. Nice pairings but personally I never miss the chance to pair Port with chocolate. The meal costs $1,250 per person.

Lurssen Launches Sunflower Yacht

The Lurssen mystery project made its appearance last week and Superyacht Times has the pics. Not much is known about the 155-meter project (over 508 feet!) besides the name Sunflower (it is expected that it will be renamed when it is done). Yachtspotter has an interesting thread on the subject stating that she will be a royal yacht, perhaps the successor to Al Said because the yacht has a similar sandy color.

Russian Businessman Gets First Of Two Matching Yachts

Another tale of Russian spending for your consumption today. The picture above is from the launch of Areti I, a new 127-foot yacht from Burger. This yacht is the first of two identical tri-deck yachts being built for the same man, a young Russian businessman who has business in two different parts of the world and wants a yacht in both places. His solution was the Areti I and the Areti II, one yacht for the U.S., Bahamas and the Caribbean and one yacht for the Mediterranean, Adriatic and Aegean seas. The interiors are designed with recessed paneled Makoré and fluted column details throughout completing a color scheme of cream, rust and brown. Both yachts have a main deck level master suite and four large guest staterooms below decks. Areti II will launch later this fall.

Alfa Romeo Yacht For Sale

I've seen some amazing sailing yachts offered for sale recently. The latest is one that we've been following since her launch in 2005, the Alfa Romeo yacht. The 98-foot yacht is one of the fastest super maxi yachts in the world. The lightning fast beauty has snapped up a variety of prizes in the last few years including most recently passing the line first in the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup. The yacht makes generous use of carbon fiber both on the inside and out. Because she has been racing for the past couple of years she has been kept in peak shape and comes with two complete containers of spares and sails. The yacht is listed at 3.9 million euros.

Rent Fatboy Slim's Yacht

You probably know Norman Cook by his other name, Fatboy Slim, or perhaps from his popular song "Praise You." Cook and his wife, British TV presenter are also in the yacht rental business, renting out their 100-foot Barracuda yacht in Sardinia for a nice profit. The Daily Star reports that the yacht costs £20,000 to charter for seven days and £10,000 for a weekend through Mrs and Mrs Smith. This beautiful yacht has been freshly restored and has a crew of four. There are four guest cabins and four bathrooms. And of course, since this yacht belongs to a musician, there is an onboard iPod system stocked with 7,000 songs.

The Anti-Seasickness Yacht

A luxury yacht that you can't get seasick on? That's the promise of the Ferretti 630. The Times Online reports on the yacht which uses a stabilizer system called Anti Rolling Gyro (ARG) to stop side-to-side motion. Here's how it works: there is a 154lb steel and aluminum gyroscope in the bottom of the hull with an electric motor, when the sea gets rough and the boat get tilty, the gyroscope spins against the lean and helps keep the boat on an even keel. The stabilizer not only has the benefit of keeping your guests from getting nauseous, it also can help objects stay put rather than pitching and rolling with the boat. The three-cabin yacht has other lovely details like a massage lounge in the owner's cabin and a padded sun lounge on the flybridge. The Ferretti 630 sells for around l £1.57 million and is currently on display at the Southampton boat show.

Sorcerer II For Sale

We cover a lot of yachts for sale but Sorcerer II is something extraordinary. No simple cruiser, she recently completed a two-year scientific expedition circumnavigating the globe to collect samples of microbes in seawater for genetic sequencing The yacht is owned by famed genetics expert Craig Venter and is made of kevlar, E-glass, and epoxy laminates to make one light single-masted sailing vessel. The 95-foot yacht was built to handle extremes in temperature and has accommodations for six in the owner's party with separate quarters for four crew. The master stateroom has a king-size berth with a shower/tub en suite. The port and starboard guest cabins can convert from separate twin beds to a double. I hope whoever buys this one has a thirst for adventure.

[Thanks, Chris!]

Zodiac's Adorable New Yacht Tender, the Eclipse 570

The latest model from Zodiac, the maker of rough and tough inflatable boats is the cute little Eclipse 570 yacht tender. According to Superyacht Times, the 18.7 foot boat will make its U.S. boat show debut at this year's Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The little boat ferries nine passengers around in shaded comfort with bow and main canopies. The seats are well spaced out for balance with space for two on an aft bench facing forward, a double seat on the aft end of the engine compartment lid for two facing aft, two passengers can sit on the seating area forward of the engine compartment lid and the forward and side bench seats of the bow area will hold the remaining three passengers. Other details include handholds, handles for boarding, recessed boarding steps and a swim platform. The tender has an inboard diesel engine and zips you back and forth from your yacht at a brisk 30 knots.

Mona Lisa Yacht

It's an ambitious thing to name a yacht the Mona Lisa. This 60-foot yacht which is now for sale was designed to be a classic sailing yacht for amazing adventures because she is capable of being self sufficient for several months. The Mona Lisa is an expedition sailboat expedition with an ice-reinforced aluminum hull. Special features of this yacht include a heated enclosed pilothouse, a transom garage for secure storage of the dinghy, a hydraulic anchor storage system, a recirculating hot water conservation system and backup generators for running the important equipment. The Mona Lisa could be used as a luxury cruising yacht by a couple, or as a research vessel by a small team. She was listed at $2.7 million but is now for sale for $1,998,000 through David Walters Yachts.

Here's a beautiful new yacht for your Labor Day viewing enjoyment, the 50 meter schooner Galileo. The yacht was recently launched by Turkish company Aegean yachts. The three-masted sailing yacht is a classic beauty. The decks are Burmese teak and there is a dining area on the aft deck and an open-air jacuzzi forward. The fore-deck has room for the water todays and one of the five cabins has been converted int oa scuba storage area with compressors, diving gear and a hydraulic diving platform.
