Ricki Lake on staying slim

The kids of today might not know who Ricki Lake is, but I remember when the plump and cute talk show host was the talk of the TV world. She hasn't been around much these days, but recently made a reappearance in tabloid magazines -- looking half her size.

How did she do it? According to the Skinny Website, she has fresh, organic food delivered to her, and she eats about 1200 calories a day. She also works out with a trainer at least three times a week and hikes and swims in her spare time. And all her hard work has paid off -- she's a size two and, in her words, she 'can't be any smaller.'

Losing weight is hard work, but wouldn't it be easier if we could all afford to get fresh meals delivered to us? What do you think about Ricki's weight loss?

1. Hi Martha, here's what I think (you asked, LOL!)....I think that I would just love to have fresh organic food delivered to me every day and I'd also love having my own personal trainer to help me stay motivated....yes, I do have days when I don't feel motivated. :) I think it's wonderful that Ricki has these benefits (no, I'm not being sarcastic).

Even so, she still could have overeaten on her own time, and it sounds like she wasn't doing that. I bet that she has also worked out many of her emotional reasons for using food...I read somewhere else that she started overeating when she was a kid because of sexual abuse...she was trying to protect herself by gaining weight, she didn't want to be attractive.

I believe it's just as possible to lose weight without having home delivery or a personal trainer. It might take some extra sources of motivation to keep you going (a walking partner, online support group, motivational reading), but you can definitely do it.

All the best,

JoLynn

2. Hi JoLynn,
Thanks for your feedback ... I love hearing from our readers. I think you are absolutely right -- it would be nice having a personal trainer and food delivered to your door, but it's not necessarily a recipe for success.
Cheers,
