Over on Around Azeroth I sometimes think we focus too much on the amazing vistas to be found in Outland and look some of the scenery in our own back yard. Take this for example -- a screenshot of Silithus sent in by reader Dubl3. It my be an unvisited and overlooked area of the game these days, but it's no less the lovely for it.

There's a lot of talk about the Lament of the Highborne lately due to
a recent Blizzard machinima release. However, the Lament of the Highborne made its first appearence in the
World of Warcraft as part of a Ghostlands quest, from where reader Lee snapped this shot. (
Video of the event may also be interesting for those of you who have never done this particular quest line.) WoWWiki provides us with
a rough translation of the song, as follows:
By the light, by the light of the sun, Children of the blood, Our enemies are breaking through, Children of the blood, By the light, Failing children of the blood...

Reader Dekulink sends in a lovely image of a terrible spot. We're looking out over the Pools of Aggonar, right above Aggonar's bones. But in the foreground of this troublesome scene is the the lovely golden glow of the herb Dreaming Glory, which maintains its brilliance despite the dreary surroundings.

Reader Lurthaar sends in this shot taken of one of the many Furbolg camps in Ashenvale. Like all Furbolg camps, they're guarded by these creepy totems. I've tried to ask them what these figures represent, but surprisingly none of the Furbolg in the area are very chatty...

It's not often that a single screenshot can tell a story, but the composition of this shot, sent in by reader Armature, certainly suggests one. (Though you may argue that the story being told here involves Gnomes and barbecue.) And for the Horde in the audience who don't recognize the setting, this is the Ironforge Military Ward, and Armature has positioned himself in a high-up place I hadn't realized it was possible to get to.

When everyone gets their first flying mount, I'm fairly sure that the first thing they do is hop over to Shattrath City to investigate the beam of light soaring above the city center. While I do not know if this was precisely the case with reader Numarza of Mannoroth who sent us this shot, so I'll simply conclude that this perspective gives us a fascincating overview of the city (and I wonder what parts of Azeroth would look like from such a bird's eye perspective!).

Reader Joseph sends in this shot of a male Troll caught mid-dance in the middle of an undisclosed (but very orange) location. I know where this shot was taken, but Joseph has sworn me to secrecy, suggesting that you, dear readers, come up with an answer -- where is Joseph's troll dancing?

Dcruize of Trollbane (EU) sends in this rather dull shot of an inn in Allerian Stronghold (in Terrokar Forest) with a warning: we should boycott this inn! Why, you ask? Dcruize explains it best:
This 1-star 'inn' at the Allerian Stronghold is nothing more than an empty circular room. There are no tables, no beds and the innkeeper doesn't even let you sit on her two chairs.Sounds like a poor facility at best -- but so long as it offers rested experience, I think I'd be happy!

Reader Sanari of Khaz Modan sends in this nicely composed shot that really catches the speed of the Druid's travel form. Here we see a Druid speeding across the Tanaris desert towards the moonrise. (I want to say towards Un'goro, but with the landmarks in this shot, it could just as easily be running the other way.)

Reader Loro of Hyjal sends in this interesting image of a mysterious silvery ring circling one of Zangarmarsh's giant mushrooms. This isn't a common sight -- out of the many mushrooms of Zangarmarsh, it's the only one we know of. But what this ring is or why it's there is still a mystery

Reader MG sends us this screenshot of the Ogre in Blade's Edge Mountains. When they're congregating like that, you can be sure there's trouble brewing, and MG explains that these Ogres have gathered to elect a new champion of their people, a king (or queen!) of the Ogre.

While we've seen the airstrip over Ironforge before, reader Lfnotter sent in this shot with the thought that it was appropriate considering the rumors of
flying machines for engineers in the expansion. Will we one day be constructing our own devices just like these? Will the Iong-closed Ironforge airstrip be opened to visiting engineers? We're all going to have to wait and see...!

Alex sends us this lovely shot taken in the zone of Azshara, showing off the purple twilight sky and red trees. Of course the zone in general looks quite pleasant in a shot like this, which shows off the zone's scenery without highlighting the many naga, furbolg, demons, and dragonkin that roam freely throughout the area.

Reader Titcouette of Suramar (EU) sends in this hard to catch shot of Ragnaros. Sure, we've all seen the ubiquitous kill shots with the giant hammer sticking out of the lava, but before you get to that point Ragnaros throws up his arms and implodes in a shower of sparks -- and it's that precise moment you're seeing here. Says Titcouette:
...[This shot is] one I've tried to shoot for some time, and never been able to do when I was 60, dead more often than alive at the end of Molten Core... Some people still like to play and enjoy the old content, even though we've already done it so many times. It's much more fun and relaxed pace now, finishing a MC in one evening, even with only about 20 people up in the guild, is really something enjoyable. An elaborate sand clock, a brilliantly colored sky (is that lightning?), dragon overhead... yep, this couldn't be anywhere but the Caverns of Time! Thorion of Hydraxis sends in this iconic shot taken of the sand clock just inside the Caverns of Time in Tanaris -- an excellent addition to the collection of anyone playing the "gotta catch 'em all" game with our Azeroth screenshots.
