HD porn studio swayed to Blu-ray by PS3 owners

Any respectable connoisseur of the erotic arts can tell you that in this day and age, watching lo-def pornography is about as un-erotic as watching reruns of Murder, She Wrote. Once you've seen an unclothed bathing suit area at 1080p, lower definition skin flicks just seem to lose their appeal. Many porno purveyors have already made the leap to high definition formats -- such as Digital Playground, which publishes movies exclusively in HD-DVD, much to the chagrin of pornstars left with pockmarked skin after years of spite and heroin abuse.

However, Joone, the company's single-named founder, has recently reconsidered his position in the resolution war, agreeing to publish Digital Playground pictures (starting with their 2005 award-winning blockbuster Pirates) in Blu-ray as well. Why the change of heart? According to Joone, "A lot of people were e-mailing that bought a PlayStation 3 and they were basically saying, 'When are you guys going to release Blu-ray?'" Pornophilic PS3 owners can buckle their swashes when Pirates is released January 4th -- we suggest watching the timeless classic American Bangster to tide you over until then.

Indeed, and besides, the winner of blu-ray and HD-dvd war puts a lot of momentum behind either the ps3 or, to a lesser extent, the 360. This influences their continued production of video games. There's your tenuous association, but to be honest, the article is quite interesting; the fact that the porn industry has such an influence in the format war is exceedingly funny.

I don't complain everytime something is posted about that has nothing to do with gaming, in fact I'm pretty sure this is the first time, so no need to whip out the banhammer. I was more concerned with age appropriate material on your wesite. I dunno, something about pornography discussions on a gaming blog that kids more than likely tune into and parents more than likely not expecting such content on said blog just kinda made me wonder if this was really all that necessary.

I just kind of scratch my head when sites put age restrictions on game trailers depicting violence, but porn for kids is ok. Makes you realize how warped our society can be, huh?

I prefer to get my porn via digital distro... you know, the free kind. So as soon as they rip these and upload them to the Pirate Bay, I'll be able to download these in glorious h.264 hopefully.

It's relevant because the company founder specifically cites the "Playstation" brand when speaking about the decision to publish in both formats, with pressure coming not just from Sony, but from gamers/HD Porn enthusiasts as well.

It's nice to see how openly most gamers embrace pornography. Whenever PC gamers get together at places like QuakeCon, you see gamers proudly boast about how many gigs of porn or music they have.

It's because current DVD lines are easier to convert for production of HD DVD discs. Plus, Blu-Ray is simply a more advanced format that holds more data in the same physical space. Higher density storage, in almost any form, is more expensive. I don't know if the studios/BDA are eating the extra costs or what, but right now HD movies on both sides are basically the same at retail.

I'm sorry, the days when people play video games and video games only on one device, listen to music on another and then watch video on a thrid are long gone my friend.

Convergence is happening whether you want it or not and Sony has forseen that that gaming platforms are evolving into something more than just that. Gaming, music, video and file servers are all being put into one device and despite what everyone says, there are plenty of games on the PS3. If you say otherwise, then you are either

a) an extreme fanboy;
b) clueless to current events;
c) in denial

Saying that the PS3 has no games to play is like saying that Microsoft has not done a thing about the 30% failure rate in their 'next generation' consoles. They have addressed it in case you didn't know that either.
