New blue DS Lite confirmed [update]

Rumors surfaced earlier this month that a cobalt blue DS Lite might be in the works, and now a page at Circuit City has popped up confirming the new model. It's not quite as we expected, however; the new model is blue and black, much like the crimson and black Lite that got our blood boiling last year.

Thoughts on the new color combo? If you're willing to shell out the cash for a new Lite, we want to know. It's a bit darker than we expected, put part of that is surely the reflection of the black backing. Overall, we're pleased.

Rumor: Another blue DS Lite?

The world (or at least, parts of it) has already seen the Ice Blue and Enamel Navy, but are we about to see another shade? According to Platformers, maybe so. They promise that a trusted source -- who has been in the know on rumors in the past -- has let slip that a Cobalt Blue DS Lite is in the cards, and we'll see it as early as next month.

Though the rumor doesn't specify, it hints that the color is slated for the North American market. Part of us wants to believe ... and the rest just wonders why we're not getting one of the existing shades of blue if this rumor turns out to be made of truth.

DS Daily: Would you buy another DS?

When it comes to the DS, you've got options. You can go traditional, you can move up to a Lite, and you can choose from a variety of colors. You can even import if your region doesn't feature the shade you prefer. But would you buy another regular DS or bundle? Would it depend on price? What about the rumored redesigned DS, sans GBA slot? If it came with that also-rumored download service, we'd be all over it, but the GBA slot is near and dear to our hearts. There might be tears.

Canadians get a deal on the DS Lite

If you're Canadian, we're sorry (we kid!). No, actually if you're Canadian and so happen to be in the market for a new DS Lite, then you're in luck. Turns out retailer Zellers is dishing out DS Lites for only $109.99, but only if they're of the black, white or pink variety.

Should you want to check out the flyer, hit up this link and input your postal code. Once done, it should send you over to the appropriate area. Or, you could just walk into one of the stores, if you have one near you.

Japan not as nuts for the crimson/black DS Lite as we are?

We all know how nutty for the DS Lite Japan has been in the past, it would appear that Nintendo is finally starting to quench consumers' thirst in the region. As the new crimson/black DS Lite released to Japan last week, it appears that it failed to sell out at retail, a feat accomplished by many of its predecessors. Of course, this leads us to one question: is Nintendo finally catching up with the Japanese demand or is the crimson/black DS Lite just not appealing to consumers in the region?

Go to Target for the new DS Lite, save $10

Remember how we were telling you just last night that the black and red DS Lite is on sale now on its own, without the bundled copy of Brain Age 2? Well, if you're like us (see: tall, dark and handsome), you're already setting aside those precious monies to pick up the new DS Lite model. Well, if you decide to pick it up from Target, you can get it for a whole $10 cheaper.

It may not be the biggest sale on the planet, but we can all appreciate a few saved bucks.

[Thanks, Crazylink!]

Get your DS Lite fix without the brain training

Nintendo issued out a statement today, confirming rumors that the black and red DS Lite that came bundled with Brain Age 2 would be sold without the title, as a stand alone unit. It is currently available in stores right now with the appropriate price tag of $129.99. Color us super jazzed.

Anyone else planning on picking this beauty up with us?

Crimson Black DS releases sans bundle October 3rd?

Of course, we've all seen the store displays saying it was releasing in October, but when exactly? Rumor has it, the thing will be on sale soon. So, if you're one of the folks who held off even though it was bundled with a fine title (see: us), you should be able to get your hands on one soon enough.

Word hits via Toys R Us' website that the unit will be available on its own for purchase come October 3rd. This is merely a rumor at this point, but it isn't stopping us from crossing our fingers, closing our eyes tight and whispering "pleaseohpleaseohpleaseohplease." And, since the thing is going to Japan without a bundle on October 4th, we're willing to believe.

Two-toned DS going to Japan sans bundle

The coolest DS color combination yet, and not only did the US get it (for once), but we got it before Japan. The crimson/black DS Lite, released here as part of a Brain Age 2 bundle, will be released in Japan on October 4. The system will be priced at the same 16,800 yen ($145) price point as any other DS Lite, and will come without any included software or extras.

That's not because Brain Age 2 is an undesirable product over there-- quite the opposite. It's just that every person in Japan already possesses at least one copy of Brain Age 2.

Confirmed: Brain Age 2 bundle incoming

Despite popping up and going away at various online retailers, the Brain Age 2 bundle is here to stay. And, considering we were thinking about replacing our worn DS Lite anyway, this comes as very welcome news. Those of you looking to pick up this bundle may do so come August 21st for $149.99, when the game releases.

The bundle still has as of yet to be listed through various online retailers again at the time of this report. We'll be keeping our eye out, though.

DS Daily: Hey, had to replace one yet?

Looking at our DS Lite, we can see the shoulder buttons are a disgusting kind of yellow and our bottom screen has some scratches on it thanks to "friends" who've managed to pry it from our hands for a round of Meteos or what have you. We're thinking we might need to replace our DS Lite with a new one (Onyx, we're looking at you!). Sure, we could pick up this bundle, if it's ever made available, but we still don't know if replacing our DS Lite is the answer.

How about you, readers? Have you had to replace your DS or DS Lite, simply because it was too banged up or you were sick of looking at it? Or, are you still rocking a launch day Phat, proud?

Is that a black and red DS Lite?

Sure, we've seen the two new colors Japanese consumers are getting their hands on, however a third and more appealing (to us, anyway) color has emerged from the ashes of E3. A red and black DS, which is red on the top clamshell piece and black throughout the remainder of the handheld, is only to be included in special bundles along with Nintendo's upcoming sequel Brain Age 2.

In checking around the internet, we found a bundle of the new color is already being made available to Canadian folks via retailer Future Shop, where they can pick up the new DS Lite, along with Brain Age 2, for a cool $159.99 (or $152.67 USD). The bundle even comes with a carrying case, which we're not sure is to be included in other bundles, as well.

Gloss Silver and Metallic Pink DS Lites now available for import

The new DS Lites have been released in Japan and have shown up on import shopping sites. That's right, for only $179 + shipping, you can have a DS Lite in one of the two new Japan-exclusive colors! You have your choice of Like the Regular DS Phat Color but on a Lite, or Like the Pink One but Shinier.

Sure, you pay a premium, but it may be worth it to have a DS that looks somewhat different from other DS's in the immediate area. Depends on how you feel about the new colors! What do you think-- Gloss Silver or Gross Silver? Metallic Pink or Me-tacky Pink?

DS Daily: DS ... Liter?

It's almost (min)E3 time, and you know what that means -- wanton speculation. That's right, game fans, it's time to hop on the rumor train. So what's the story? You won't believe it. No, really.

An all new DS. And no, we don't mean a new color. We here in America, we don't get new colors, because we apparently don't buy enough Brain Age.

As rumors go, the idea of yet another DS redesign is not terribly un-possible. We saw several versions of the GBA, after all. But seriously, how small can we really go? Sometimes we already confuse it with the checkbook -- and our pals with larger hands occasionally complain of a little cramping as it is. And are bigger screens or a streamlined design necessary? Do we need a different (better?) DS? You decide.
