Oscar Watch: Coens Leading Helmer, Screenplay Races; No. 2 for Best Pic
The
Coen Brothers top the season's first charts for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay at
Gurus O'Gold, while their masterpiece "No Country For Old Men,'' opening Friday, hangs in at No. 2 on the Best Picture chart behind "Atonement,'' due next month. On the strength of early buzz, "Sweeney Todd'' has jumped up a couple of slots to seventh place, while "Beowulf'' has fallen off the Best Picture chart. As I am among the gurus, this is where you can find my latest predictions in several races, including Best Original Screenplay, where
Tony Gilroy leads for "Michael Clayton''.
