Mars

Our expertise in space instruments dates back to year 1986 and to our first planetary project, Phobos, which was a co-operative mission to Mars with former Soviet Union. From the past, other projects like PPI/HASI/HUYGENS, MVACS/Mars Surveyor 1998, and the late Mars-96 provide a good view of FMI's planetary research sensor activities.

ESA's mission Mars Express was launched in 2003 and is bringing new data on the plasma and neutral particle environment at Mars. NASA's Martian lander Phoenix carrying FMI's pressure sensor as part of Canadian Meteorological station is due to land in May 2008. FMI is also involved in NASA's Mars Science Laboratory mission (to be launched in 2009) by supplying pressure and humidity sensors to Spanish Rover Environmental Monitoring Station (REMS).
