Mayfield was able to tell his story on February 29, 2008 at Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas. Listen to Mr. Mayfield's life experience with the US authorities.

January Means that It's Time for the Annual Adolph Rupp Tournament! For the past 38 years, Halstead has honored its very own legend of basketball, Adolph Rupp (September 2, 1901 – December 10, 1977). To this day, Adolph Rupp is known as the "Baron of Bluegrass" for taking talent from the hills of Kentucky and creating championship teams at the University of Kentucky, the 3rd winningest coach in college basketball history, winning 876 games in 41 years of coaching, and setting a remarkable standard of excellence at Kentucky that exists to this very day. Rupp is also second among all coaches in alltime winning percentage (.822).
This year, the teams competing in the Adolph Rupp High School Basketball Invitational Tournament are:
- Andale
- Cheney
- Garden Plain
- Halstead
- Haven
- Inman
- Moundridge
- Rose Hill
In memory of Adolph Rupp's amazing basketball coaching achievements, Halstead invites seven teams to our humble community each year for some of the best high school basketball in Kansas. We invite everyone to enjoy the Adoph Rupp web site. Better yet come spend the week with us and cheer on your favorite teams, and see the Adolph Rupp display (portion of the display is shown above) at the Halstead Historical Society!
