Rocking Chairs and Lemonade

UK: Debut album from James Fox

James Fox, the United Kingdom's representative at the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest will shortly release the first track from his forthcoming debut album 'Rocking Chairs and Lemonade'. The self-penned track 'Higher' is due to be released as a CD single on Plastic Tomato Records on 6th October.

James will be hoping for a return to UK charts after his last single Bluebirds Flying High made the Top 20 in the UK charts last May. Five years ago James secured his first hit single with his Eurovision entry Hold Onto Our Love, which reached number 13 in the UK charts.

Speaking about his new album James said It’s very exciting, there’s 11 songs and I’ve written six and co-written the rest but all the lyrics are mine. I’ve always been a songwriter but I’ve always found it difficult. Phil Thornnally, the Ivor Novello-winning songwriter who produced the Natalie Imbruglia smash Torn, has co-written one of the tracks which James is hoping will give him the hit of the album. To have someone of that stature work on the album is amazing, he said. If it gets one tenth of the success of Torn, though it sounds nothing like the track, I’d be ecstatic. It’s taken me a long time to be happy with the sound of this material and to find the right producer and sound for the album. It’s been worth the wait and it’s a true reflection of where I am right now as we managed to capture that in the studio. It’s honest and it’s exceeded my expectations.

Since appearing in the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest, James has developed a successful career in musical theatre with appearances in the UK as Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar and has been touring the USA as the leading role in the Billy Joel's musical Movin' Out over the past three years.

Higher and further tracks from his new album are available to listen on James Fox's MySpace at http://www.myspace.com/jamesfoxmusic

"Hold on to our love" was a personal favorite that year, and cleary the best UK entry of this decade (and further back). He was cute too :)

>> Dima Bilan
>> No one voted for him because the U.K attacked Iraq.

And who says that ESC isn't political??? That says it all

I went to Istanbul specifically to support James, he was my favorite singer then and still is now. I know my love of the song was more than a little bias by my love of the voice singing it, but I thought he gave a faultless performance of what was only an average song which won him a lot of praise as a singer, even if the UK didn't get support as a nation. I urge you to drop by his myspace page (url in the artcicle above) and hear James performing his own compositions. You can hear a preview of his new single Higher, the wonderful So Far Away From Home inspired by his trips to perform for the British troops in war zones which will be on his forthcoming album Rocking Chairs and Lemonade, as well as You Can Do Anything an upbeat track from his already released Six String EP (available from his Myspace or for download on iTunes).

There were several good songs in 2004 but I think "Hold on to our love" should have finished top 7 at least. I like it :)

A bit like "even if" mina :( I think thats part of the problem with our songs, they're not particularly awful (we leave that to Belarus lol), but they're not amazing either. They're nice, but nothing more. And "nice" doesn't get the votes.
And I swear we are just unlucky lol! I mean, with the draw and everything. Cos in 2002, 2005 & 2008 we had to sing in second place, and they were our best songs of this decade imo, so on the occasions where we have the chance to get top 10, the draw makes it even harder for us (except for 2002)! :)

I can't believe he finished so low in 2004. Imo it was one of our best entries of this decade :) Shame on you europe for not voting for him!! :P
