Merry in the making in November

We can no longer deny it: Christmas is a-coming. It's manifesting itself all over the place.

At Gaylord Palms Resort, work has been under way on its ICE! attraction, a 9-degree spectacle that favors parkas over flipflops. At Christmasinorlando.com, you can watch two areas -- Penguin Pointe and the Frostproof Express -- on webcams. Your toes stay warm too.

Over at Holy Land Experience, you might have noticed that the landscaping has changed along the interstate. I'm of two minds on this. On one hand, it's getting a lot of exposure this way. On the other hand, that's a LOT of exposure to I-4 for those in the park, I would think.

Last week on an early morning trek to Disney, I noticed that the attraction has augmented its new look with tons of white lights on the trees. It definitely has impact.

The best thing in life is free parking

Forgot to share my glee about last week's news (third brief down on this link) that Holy Land Experience has dropped its $5 fee for parking. Because my theme-park pet peeve is parking costs, it's only fair to salute those who drop the charge altogether.

On my visit to Gatorland last week (see this coming Friday's Calendar), I discovered free parking there as well. Let's start a list. Who else out there in Orlandoland doesn't pick your pocket at the car door? (But let's not count malls ... or the annual passholder benefit).

From the outside: How Holy Land Experience is doing

National Public Radio did a piece about Holy Land Experience recently. It's newsier if you don't live here, of course, but here's a transcript/place to download. They sorta went the "born again" route.

WWJD? He would forgive them for referencing "Disneyland" when they meant "Disney World."

Singing out at Holy Land Experience

Holy Land Experience has opened another musical show, a Southern Gospel presentation called "Then Sings My Soul!" It features a male quartet, a "stage hand" for brief comic relief and an old-fashioned singalong.

I attended Friday's dress rehearsal/friends and family preview of "Soul!" (It debuted in the attraction Saturday and will run through the summer.) The atmosphere in the Shofar Auditorium was the same kind of friendly, casual gathering that I recall from the Sunday evening church services of my youth.

The concert begins with an a cappella version of "Sweet, Sweet Sprit," a certain Southern gospel standby. Light banter and testimony were presented between the ensuing numbers, which included "Midnight Cry" and "Alpha and Omega."
