Disney ticket prices rumored to increase Sunday

Both Mousesavers.com and DISboards.com are buzzing with folks saying a ticket-price increase at Walt Disney World is expected Sunday, Aug. 3. Those are not official Disney sources, but for the last two years ticket price hikes have come in August. Allears.net has added an interesting look at ticket increases since Disney World opened. Take a look here. Can you believe the price of one day's admission was $3.50 in 1971?

Disney Channel Games parade at Disney's Hollywood Studios

Dsc00190_2_2Guests Wednesday at Disney's Hollywood Studios were treated to a short parade featuring some of the young celebrities who are in Orlando to compete in the Disney Channel Games.

The parade (video on jump) was unannounced, but word had traveled among fans watching the taping of the games Tuesday at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex.

And, so, we saw starry-eyed kids and their like-minded mothers having fun anticipating what was to come while they searched for the best vantage point to see the parade.

As we scouted for a good piece of concrete to call our own, we noticed the stairs of the ABC Theater were empty and shady. A cast member told us most were reserved, but there was a corner that was not roped off. Little did we know, we would end up sitting near the sister of Cheetah Girl Kiely Williams and other friends and family of the celebrities.

Chip 'n Dale, Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy and Pluto escorted the Jonas Brothers (photo on jump), The Cheetah Girls (Sabrina Bryan pictured), Demi Lovato (from the upcoming movie 'Camp Rock') and Selena Gomez ('Wizards of Waverly Place') in the vehicles like you would have seen in the former Stars N Cars Motorcade.

Although there was some disappointment over Miley Cyrus' absence, the fans around us seemed thrilled to see the other stars in another up-close setting.

Playhouse Disney's 'Live on Stage' show

We took the kiddos out to Disney Hollywood Studios this weekend to see the new Playhouse Disney "Live on Stage!" show.

I'm happy to say this production continues to be a consistently pleasing show for little kids and their parents.

Star Wars Weekends 2008 -- May the Heat be With You

Be9a_2Although there’s been no official announcement yet, it appears that this year’s Star Wars Weekends will again take place in June.

And the Florida heat at that time of year has many Star Wars fans on message boards all hot and bothered and openly critical of the scheduling.

At Disney-MGM, Harlem Gospel Choir is sensational

Not only did I sing with Candlelight Processional at Epcot this year, I sang with the Harlem Gospel Choir at Disney-MGM Studios. And you can too! The spirited singers invite the audience to sing, dance, clap and feel the spirit. It's a show worth seeing -- and it ends Christmas Day, so what are you waiting for?

Put your hands together for Harlem Gospel Choir at MGM-Studios

There's fresh holiday entertainment now playing at Disney-MGM Studios with performances by the Harlem Gospel Choir. The performers ooze enthusiasm during the 30-minute concerts, which can be seen three times daily -- 5 p.m., 6 p.m., 7:30 p.m. -- through Dec. 25 at the Theater of the Stars down Sunset Boulevard (home of the Beauty and the Beast show).

On stage are seven singers, plus a drummer and a keyboardist, and after the opener of "Are You Ready for a Miracle?" they go through traditional favorites with a gospel bent. It's yule log meets revival tent.

I especially liked a fast clap-along version of "Joy to the World."

It's a bit of a thankless job, actually, trying to revive theme park visitors at the end of a long day. But they got everyone on their feet in a "put your hands together" moment for "Oh, Happy Day." (Photo below).

Horse sense: What we saw in the parking lot at Disney-MGM Studios

Here's the word on the pony-spotting earlier during Super Soap Weekend in the parking lot of Disney-MGM Studios, from a various of sources.

It is a seeing-eye pony, a service animal. The miniature Appaloosa is named Confetti and lives in Jacksonville.

Many of you say you've seen Confetti multiple times. For the rest of you, there's a pony pic after the jump.

Last Super Soap thoughts at Disney-MGM

Some final tidbits from the Super Soap Weekend extravaganza at Disney-MGM Studios.

As promised, here's the answer to which soap star snapped a bit at Saturday night's Soap Jam when a fan commented he seemed to have been drinking. It provides a valuable lesson to attendees: Remember, the actors are STANDING RIGHT THERE. They are not in your TV. They can hear you, so some common courtesy would be nice. Of course, Super Soap Weekend is not known for courtesy.

    Disney-MGM's Super Soap Street Jam

The Super Soap Street Jam at Disney-MGM Studios last night lived up to its billing, with the "Cellblock Tango" themed to story lines on the ABC soaps the clear highlight. If you've seen the stage musical or movie "Chicago," you know the premise. But the reworking for five soap characters was both funny and clever.

Sea of Super Soap Weekend fans hits Disney-MGM Studios

I survived Saturday at Super Soap Weekend and am here to tell about it. It was the usual shriek and shove fest that soap fans have come to adore.

All My Children star Cameron Mathison had the biggest throng -- not that thong that keeps getting mentioned on Dancing With the Stars -- going. I couldn't get close enough for a good picture. He has a boisterous following, but do they vote on Mondays? Another reason for the screams was ABC's cameras following him during the day. Point a camera at a group and they apparently go bonkers. (In an unscientific poll, Jason Thompson of General Hospital had the fans with the second-strongest lungs.)

After the jump, a few pics and moments with Susan Lucci, John-Paul Lavoisier, Laura Wright, Kathy Brier, Brandon Buddy, Tika Sumpter, Sherri Shepherd and more -- including a pony!

What they're saying about Super Soap Weekend at Disney-MGM Studios

On the fence about attending Super Soap Weekend at Disney-MGM Studios? Would a little Dancing With the Stars make a difference? We now know that Cameron Mathison, pulling double duty on All My Children and surviving thus far on DWTS, will perform with his professional partner Edyta Sliwinska during the evening "street jam" on Saturday. The stars' motorcade begins at 7:15 p.m., with the jam afterwards.

Another street jam note: Expect "Cell Block  Tango" but with an ABC Daytime twist.

Friday I talked with several ABC actresses about Super Soap Weekend experiences and daytime dramas in general. These are their stories. Quick! Who was allegedly named for a Magic Kingdom attraction? (After the jump: One Life to Live's Erika Slezak plus Laura Wright and Rebecca Herbst from General Hospital.)(Also: For Super Soap preview interview with Alicia Minshew of All My Children, click here.)

Tika Sumpter, Layla on One Life to Life. It’s her first Super Soap.

Lumpter On her SSW debut: I’m ready for all the fans. "It’s times 100 here than at normal fan events. The fans are excited to see us, so why shouldn’t we be excited to see them? David Fumero, who plays Cristian Vega on the show, and Melissa Gallo, who plays Adriana Cramer, gave me a little heads up. They’re like ‘Pace yourself, have fun, enjoy it, it may be overwhelming at times but just breathe and enjoy it. And try not to smile way too much because it makes your mouth hurt.’ "

On coming to Disney at age 12: "Disney World was my most favorite place to go. I just remember "it’s a small world and all these different place and I want to go back. It’s so different when you’re older. It’s like oh, OK. It’s not so HUGE."

On her first two years on OLTL: "Everyone has treated me, from day one, like family."

On her hopes for high-soap drama: "I need a stalker, give me an extra boyfriend, an old boyfriend. Maybe a kid that I had a long time ago. yeah, I would love just some more drama, more craziness, more back story to let the fans know where she’s coming from. Why is she so feisty? Why is she so hard?"

On the name Tika: "I supposedly got the name here when I was at Disney World, when I was way younger. I came here as a baby. Somehow I was crying, I saw a Tiki bird, my grandmother gave me that name. That’s the family legend. (Her mom disagrees though). I’ve had the name forever."

The good & the bad: Emptying trash and 'Beauty & the Beast'

Disney so often gets it right, it's shocking when something happens to truly detract from the park's magic. I had a "bad show" experience recently that really threw me for a loop, it was so un-Disneylike. On the flip side, I also had an outstanding show experience, too. The details after the jump.

Theme Park Rangers see the Power Rangers

BouixteamMy Ranger better half already has described the chaos of seeing the other rangers -- the Power Rangers -- at Disney MGM Studios. Recently, though, I got a chance to experience it, too.

Odds and ends at Disney-MGM Studios

A few tidbits today concerning upcoming events at Disney-MGM Studios.

As previously announced, the Harlem Gospel Choir will be performing during the holiday season. The dates are Nov. 30-Dec. 25 at the Theater of the Stars (translation: where they do "Beauty and the Beast.")

The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights runs Nov. 12 through Jan. 6. The lights are set to music again this year -- but expect different music.

Halloween Party, Juice Newton, High School Musical: Mom's in town

Mom's in town so we have been hitting the theme parks. Some times it takes a set of fresh eyes, ie. a visitor, to give you a different perspective on our attractions. Here are some of Mom's thoughts:

The Seas With Nemo and Friends -- Mom thought this was great, her favorite thing at Epcot, because it's so cute. Just goes to show a super thrill ride isn't always what guests leave talking about. There's a lot to be said for clever theming and a novel approach (in this case, projecting animated characters into real aquariums).

Cast members get Goofy with Walt Disney trivia

Goofy's Mystery Tour occurred this week at Disney-MGM Studios. It's an annual trivia/puzzle/scavenger hunt event for cast members. Teams of four scatter to collect clues and answers across the park. Oh, and they're tethered together with a bungee cord, so choose your friends wisely, right?

There were 50 trivia questions, ranging from somewhat common knowledge (among cast members, at least) to the interesting and obscure. Folks bone up beforehand, but that's a lot to cover since it's 100 years of history of Walt Disney (the man) and a world of Disney (the company) to go through.

I'm reprinting a few of my favorites from the Goofy tour here, with answers after the jump. Play along (bungee cord not included).

    4. In Italy, Mickey Mouse is known as __________? (A) Topolino (B) Mickey Maus (C) Raton Mickey (D) Musse Pigg.

    5. What did Walt give Lillian for their 31st wedding anniversary? (A) A diamond ring (B) A walk-on role in Mary Poppins (C) A petrified tree stump (D) A new radio

    6. In the Broadway production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast, how many yards of human hair were used in the Beast's tail? (A) 3 yards (B) 5 yards (C) 7 yards (D) None

    7. What attraction brings you from the ground to third floor in DisneyQuest? (A) WEDway People Mover (B) Cyberlator (C) Hydrolator (D) Wonkalator

    10. In the Haunted Mansion attraction, you'll hear the spooky song "Grim Grinning Ghosts." Complete this missing lyrics: "Creepy creeps with eerie eyes/Start to _______." (A) Scream and harmonize (B) Shriek and harmonize (C) Shriek and vaporize (D) Shriek and idolize.

    Remember, answers after the jump.

Front row at the HSM2 show
    Xin_30208042014487341053965

Get your head in the game and line up right over here.

It’s not much of a problem for your preteen or teenage kids to catch the new High School Musical 2 show at Disney MGM Studios. They show up and watch the show, just like most anyone else.

But what about the preschoolers and the slightly older kids who also get a kick out of the show? Or, for that matter, what about someone with a disability? Or even Grandma, who’s at the park with the grandkids and wants to see what all the fuss is about over this "school musical"?

The park seems to have taken that into consideration with their unique way of ensuring that guests get up close to the production. Provided, of course, if the guests show up early and queue up in a designated area.

Will Cameron Mathison dance his way to Disney-MGM Studios?

Usually, I am resistant to post pics of a celeb posing with Mickey or Minnie, but this one caught my eye and sorta made me snort. You know, in a  good way.

    Camminnie111283_47e

That's Minnie on the left with Cameron Mathison, who's appearing on this round of ABC's Dancing With the Stars in addition to his regular acting duties as Ryan Lavery on ABC's All My Children and as host of SoapNet's I Wanna Be a Soap Star.

Cameron will also be a presence at Disney-MGM's Super Soap Weekend (Nov. 10-11), and it will be interesting if he's still rehearsing for primetime performances.

View host Sherri Shepherd to make Super Soap Weekend stop at Disney-MGM Studios

Shepherd Here's the latest addition to the ABC Super Soap Weekend lineup: Sherri Shepherd, newest host of The View, will appear at the Nov. 10-11 event at Disney-MGM Studios. Scheduled to be among her duties will be acting as host of the nightly street jam and conducting Q&A sessions with All My Children icon Susan Lucci and longtime One Life to Live star Erika Slezak.

Kibbles and bits from Disney-MGM Studios

Spent a little time at Disney-MGM Studios yesterday and was happy to see a couple of attractions back up and running. Rock 'n Roller Coaster, down since early September, is back on track. This isn't a Haunted Mansion-level refurbishment, just some down time for maintenance, etc.

    Copy_of_dsc01154

Meanwhile, the Jedi Training Academy, born during Star Wars Weekends, is now a permanent feature of the park, setting up shop on a stage next to Star Tours. Kids are suited up with padawan robes and lightsabers and trained to attack. This is especially cute with paired with Crocs.

When to see "High School Musical 2" show at Disney-MGM Studios

What time is it? At Disney-MGM Studios, it must be close to time for another presentation of "High School Musical 2: School's Out!", the rolling-along song and dance event that debuted this week at the park. Folks have been inquiring about when in the day you can see it.

Right now it's running six times a day: 10:35 a.m., 11:35 a.m., 1 p.m., 3:45 p.m., 4:45 p.m., 5:45 p.m. Naturally, these are subject to change, but that's the starting off point. How will the cast members ever get these songs out of their heads?

High School Musical 2: School's Out appears at Disney-MGM

Just got home from a soggy afternoon at Disney-MGM, but the good news is that the park was able to stage a production of "High School Musical 2: School's Out!" inbetween dribs and drabs Sunday. It should be noted that we were told it was still in "final stage of rehearsals" so change could happen ... although the first "real" day was set to be Monday.

    Hsm2stage

It's very true to the vibe of the TV production/phenomenon. And it's not too far flung from the original HSM "Pep Rally" previously parked at MGM. The stage still rolls up the street and parks at the big hat all while the crew performs to "What Time Is It?"

The other HSM2 songs included are "Work This Out" (with kid-crowd participation), "You Are the Music in Me" (the ballad-ish version), "I Don't Dance" (I call this one "Batter, Batter") and "All for One" (more crowd participation. Limbo!). Then it reverts to HSM1's "All in This Together" with even more crowd participation. There were even adults doing that Wildcat dance. The stage rolls back down the street to a reprise of "What Time Is It?"

The most impressive part to me continues to be what must be a high heart-rate of the performers. The choreography is very active and loyally harkens to that of the TV movie's style by Kenny Ortega. There's more partner work than before, I think, and that reflects the same thing that happened between the original movie and the sequel, and no, I can't believe I know this much about it either.

More pics (some non-HSM!) and thoughts after the jump.

    Happy birthday to you!

Live from Central Florida ... it's Regis Philbin

While Regis Philbin celebrates the start of his 20th year as host of Live With... on daytime TV, we thought we'd take a look back at Reege's visits to Central Florida attractions.

Regismk Here are Regis and current Live co-host Kelly Ripa clowing around at Disney World's Magic Kingdom in May of 2005, when they broadcast the daily show from in front of Cinderella Castle. Playhouse Disney tunes up at Disney-MGM

We're a little slow in mentioning the Playhouse Disney in Concert series. The second of its nine weekends begins tomorrow at Disney-MGM Studios, so we missed the Imagination Movers last weekend. However, the Movers appear on the schedule again Sept. 20-23, if you are so moved.

The shows, aimed at preschoolers, are 10 a.m., 11:15 a.m., 12:15 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. at Coaster Courtyard Concert Stage over by Rock 'n' Rollercoaster.

Another thing to note, according to the Disney World site: tickets for the show are first-come, first-serve. Upon entrance to MGM, go to the stage to receive tickets. Disney expects high demand.

Go, go (see the) Power Rangers!

    Dsc00090
I’m new on the Power Rangers scene, and I’m not sure I’m ready for it.

My son, who is almost 5, recently discovered the allure of the Power Rangers. He had never seen a movie or the old television show, but the boys at his preschool talk about these super teens all the time. That, coupled with his seeing their images marketed on toys, books and clothes often, made my son interested enough to request a Red Ranger costume and the opportunity to rent the movie.

I knew what was coming next. “Mommy, I want to meet the Power Rangers and get their autographs. I saw them at MGM Studios,” my theme-park-veteran son says.

    So, off we went.

When you wish upon a jack-o-latern

It’s August, and parents’ thoughts turn to … Halloween costumes?

Walt Disney World sells dress-up outfits all year. You’d have to be blinded by the glitz to miss the fancy displays of princess dresses with matching shoes, tiaras and wands in just about every store.

As fellow ranger Dewayne noted, there is such demand that Disney is opening a second Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, where girls can have complete princess makeovers. It’s understandable, though, because parents on vacation here want to make their little girls’ dreams come true. And for many, that means being dressed like royalty when meeting their counterparts in the parks.

What you might not know is that there are plenty of boys costumes at Disney, as well.

Orlando theme parks ... read more about 'em

Dsc04240There's a new theme-park publication in the works, and you could be a writer for it, too. Well, provided you know how to write well. And, of course, that you love the theme parks here and attend them often.

Former newspaper editor and publisher Matt Roseboom and Disney blogger Ricky Brigante are teaming up to publish, "Orlando Attractions Magazine," an every-other month publication (in the beginning, anyway) devoted to themed attractions here in the theme-park capital of the world.

I could go off on a why-in-the-HalloweenHorrorNights-didn't-anybody-think-of-this-before tangent. But, given my contractual obligations to a certain old-media publication at 633 N. Orange, I'll just whistle, scratch my head and offer up a Goofy-worthy "gwash!" instead.

Celebrate HSM2 at Walt Disney World

    High_school_musical
Does Walt Disney World really not have anything extra planned for the release of High School Musical 2 today? I'm told not. Hard to believe when the franchise is insanely popular around the globe.

But if you're visiting Orlando and your kids love the gang from East High, you can make it a special day. Start at the World of Disney store at Downtown Disney, where yesterday I saw the merchandise for HSM2 that came in this week. There are plenty of things for girls, but I was most excited to see a new shirt for boys. It's the green T-shirt Corbin Bleu wears that says "I majored in vacation." In my treks for all things HSM in Central Florida, I've only been able to find items for my son on Disney property. The most unique accessory I saw: a girls' HSM headband.

The Wildcats section is in the princess room, and the mood is set by a TV playing clips from the original movie and music from both. You do have the HSM2 soundtrack that was released Tuesday, don't you? If not, you can pick it up here or many other locations on property.

Get ready to 'Party' at Disney's Hollywood Studios

OK, is anyone else as excited as I am about "Block Party Bash" coming to the soon-to-be Disney's Hollywood Studios? It is my favorite parade out there at the moment, and I have driven friends and relatives crazy making them see it every time I'm in California.

    Dining update: Hollywood Brown Derby

As part of my ongoing TP Ranger duties, I’ll be checking up on theme park dining options from time to time. Not just new eating opportunities but the old stand-by restaurants, too.

This week we look in on Hollywood Brown Derby at Disney Soon-Not-To-Be-M-G-M Studios. I haven’t done a full review of HBD since it opened in 1989, so when I visited the full-service restaurant recently it was like going back in time.

New name, new stuff at park once known as Disney-MGM

Yep, as of January 2008, Disney-MGM Studios will be known as Disney's Hollywood Studios. Our Sentinel colleague Scott Powers has the scoop here. This is contrary to widespread rumor/speculation that a new name would include "Pixar" somewhere.

But that's not all. There are more changes -- now official -- down the pike for (say it with me) DHS.

    'Fantasmic!' dinner package at Disney-MGM

I joined up with assorted family members Sunday night for the "Fantasmic!" dinner package at Disney-MGM Studios. It's a pretty decent program -- unless you're fanatical about where you sit to watch the show.

13 years of Tower of Terror, 13 stories up

    Towerext

Does one "celebrate" Friday the 13th? That seems like the wrong verb. Let's go with "mark" because Disney-MGM Studios' Twilight Zone Tower of Terror today marks its 13th year of drops and flop sweat. Almost every time I've taken the plunge, someone in the car has screamed in absolute horror, which is pretty much the idea, right? (Technically, the anniversary is later in the month, but this was too fun to pass up.)

The folks at Disney offered me quite the treat: to hang out outside the Tower -- 13 stories up. This is what we call in the biz "CrazyTalk." I did it anyway. Was I feeling lucky?

Those catwalks aren't all just decoration. I was taken to the level right behind the HOLLYWOOD TOWER lettering. The walkway is a few feet wide and runs a few feet above the heads of passengers at their peeking peak, right where the doors open for a look at the park.

The view from the top, after the jump.

Have a question about your upcoming Walt Disney World trip?

    0470098422jpg
In a happy coincidence, I had been skimming The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World With Kids, when I saw that the authors will be answering questions about Orlando vacations at BudgetTravel.com. Anyone can post questions for Liliane Opsomer and Bob Sehlinger through 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Web site.

    Theme park patriotism at WDW

MagickingdomfireworksGeorge Washington. Thomas Jefferson. Mickey Mouse.

Few names conjure up “America” more than those, right? Well, OK, John Wayne. But anyway, there’s no denying that Walt Disney and all he and his company created over the years became one of the strongest embodiments of American ideals and symbolism the world would know. So, as you might imagine, the Disney theme parks will be filled with red, white and blue patriotism on our nation’s birthday, and next week will be a pride-filled experience for patriotic park-goers.

    Among some of the highlights:

The last of the Star Wars Weekends

Just a quick reminder: If you want to experience the Star Wars Weekends at Disney-MGM Studios, this weekend will be your last chance this year.

Anthony Daniels, who portrayed C-3PO, and Warwick Davis, who was Wicket the Ewok, are the two Star Wars celebrities to appear at the park during the next couple of days.

There’s more info here and lots of extra info and media here.

Can’t make it out to the theme park this weekend? Well, you can always pop in a DVD and que up the CD player in the comfort of your home.

On a basketball court far, far away

Dsc05125Last week, me and the Little Rangers were busy preparing for our Star Wars Weekend trip to MGM Studios. The kids were practicing all their Jedi light-saber moves, which basically was hitting one another over the head with their plastic sabers until somebody started crying.

I had some kind of glitch with my BlasTech DL-44 that was preventing me from shooting, first or otherwise. I really wanted to get that fixed before we hit the park, because something told me that Boba Fett would be on the prowl, probably over by the Star Traders site like the previous year. So, of course, I was preoccupied.

The Ranger Wife, though, got my attention when she brought up a theme park topic that is of galactic importance, at least around our house. You see, the kids love the "High School Musical" phenomenon, from the show to the music to the merchandise, and one thing they've really enjoyed this year has been the HSM Pep Rally at MGM Studios.

Would it be held at the same time the park was being overrun by warring Sith and Jedi?

Well, come to find out, it was.

Darth Maul gives a little extra to the crowd at the Star Wars Weekends parade

Dsc07882A popular event at Star Wars Weekends at Disney-MGM Studios is the parade that features costumed characters and celebrities from the Star Wars movies.

Even if you’re not into the movie genre as completely as the role-playing fans who show up for the annual event, it’s still a kick to watch the Jedi warriors, Stormtroopers and assorted Sith make their way through the park. Plus, you get a chance to see some actors and stuntpeople up close and get a sense what they might be like when not dressed in 15 pounds of special-effects gear.

Lightsabers light up crowds at Disney-MGM's Star Wars Weekends

Theme Park Ranger Steven gave us all a heads-up last month about Star Wars Weekends, and now I can second that motion. I've breezed through Disney-MGM Studios during these events in the past but never paid much attention. After this weekend, I can say you don't have to be a kid, parent or rabid fan to find something to like -- and you have two more weekends to catch it.

My favorite was the Jedi Training Academy: About two dozen youngsters, armed with lightsabers, learn a routine that includes "duck!" (so you don't get your head cut off) and instructions to hold your weapon high ("Your enemy may be much taller than you."). It's well-rehearsed, clever and fun to watch even if you don't have offspring involved.

Then it turns fun AND serious with the arrival of Darth Vader and Darth Maul. The kids get quiet and focused, and when Maul got close to the assembled grown-ups, his spooky eyes earned a frightened response from the crowd.

But mostly, it's charming. Each participant goes one-on-one with an enemy. Who wouldn't beam while watching a little girl -- complete with star buns! -- battle the big baddie of the Dark Side?

    Buns

(Upon closer inspection, the star buns were really an ear-muff contraption, but I think Leia would approve.)

    More photos after the jump.

Keep the kids hydrated for less

Well, this isn't the most earth-shattering news you're likely to hear today, and no one is going to slow down the presses, let along stop them. But as of May 31st at all Disney restaurants with full table service, guests nine years of age and younger -- commonly referred to as children unless you're purchasing admission tickets -- may receive free refills on all child beverages. This includes juices, bottled water, sodas and milk. Yes, even chocolate milk!

The free refill policy does not apply to specialty drinks that typically are not included with the kids' meals. That means no free mai tais.

Theme park rewind: Tuning into stars at Disney-MGM opening

Today's Photo Treasure Hunt is also a little game: Name that classic TV star. The setting is the opening of the Disney-MGM Studios back in 1989. Chris Usher, then a Sentinel photographer, notes in his caption that they were "commemorating 50 years of TV as well as the new Superstar Television Attraction."

After the jump is the photo, plus a spare paragraph of bloggage before the IDs so as not to be all spoiler on you.

Shamu, SheiKra to have Memorial Day Weekend moments

Tuesday is fading, hump day is fast approaching and I'm totally workin' for the three-day weekend. What's up at our parks in the days ahead?

SeaWorld Orlando has the freshest offerings with the debut of "Shamu Rocks the World," an after-dark show. The TV ads look enticing (drummers?!), but they're supposed to, right? Show time is 9:15 p.m. this Saturday, Sunday, Monday. The park also is scheduled to show off the expansion of Shamu's Happy Harbor, which now includes Ocean Commotion, a swaying tug boat ride, a rising-dropping contraption called Flying Fiddler plus a carousel topped by a pink octopus. No, that's not the Budweiser talking.

Epcot's Flower and Garden Festival continues. Friday through Sunday, TV landscape designer Gary Alan gives talks at 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. The Flower Power musical guests are The SOS Band on Saturday and then Gary Puckett on Sunday and Monday.

If you're feeling roadtrippy, there's also musical events at Tampa's Busch Gardens with the Wreckers (Saturday) and the Bangles (Sunday). Plus, it's the last weekend for a floor at the SheiKra rollercoaster. After Monday, the coaster will be refitted with cars that will make the ride floorless. The track stays the same, so the turnaround isn't bad: It's scheduled to reopen in mid-June.
