As you read right here on this very website the premiere of My Own Worst Enemy met with mixed reactions. Our every own Allison wasn't too thrilled with the show, but the commenters tended to lean towards good reviews of the program. Me? I'll talk about my feelings at the end of this post. What I really want to talk about now is the premiere ratings for the show. Normally, this would be buried in the weekly headlines about the network ratings overall. However, with a high-profile movie star such as Christian Slater starring in the series, ratings take on a whole new meaning.
The bad news is Worst Enemy didn't do too well. The good news is that it didn't do too badly. The preliminary ratings reveal that the program received a 3.0, with a little over 7 million viewers tuning in to see Henry and Edward, giving it second place for its time slot.
While up 11% from the season premiere of Life it lost almost 30% of its Heroes lead-in (which climbed in the ratings for the first time this season). it also marked the lowest Monday-night drama series debut for NBC in seven years.
This could mean trouble for the series since the networks seem to have an itchy trigger finger as of late when it comes to new shows. I personally think that the network should give the show a chance. Yes, the premiere did have some faults but it was otherwise very entertaining. This was especially true when Henry realized that he could work with the Edward side of his personality in many cases. Unlike NBC's other spy show Chuck, Enemy can become a great psychological action drama. All it needs is time and a little patience from the network.

Alfre Woodard saved it.

Calling Slater a movie star is a serious stretch. He hasn't carried a movie in his life.
And NBC really fucked up in the marketing for this thing. They built up a hype but then let it fizzle by shelving the thing until the end of the premiere schedule. What's worse, the ads for the show were some of the worst ever. Ben Silverman has ------- up NBC. Knight Rider, Enemy, Kath & Kim. When was the last good show premier on NBC?

Christian Slater has had a notible movie career with Gleaming the Cube, Heathers, Pump Up The Volume, Untamed Hearts, Hard Rain and more, and has been an asset to several notible ensemble casts, including Young GUns II, Mobsters, Murder in the First and others before his personal life interfered with his career. He is a well-known Hollywood name. I've always enjoyed his performances and thought he was skilled and subtle playing both Edward and Henry. I hope the show sticks around longer than Journeyman.

I really hate panning shows other people seem to enjoy but this needs to be said:

I refuse to watch any new show on NBC. They have a horrible reputation for killing any show too quickly and I am not about to let that happen again.

Doesn't the whole brain programming thing work the other way around?
Why would a secret agent want to be "programmed" to be a regular boring family guy. So when the bad guys find him, he can watch them torture and kill his family while he can't do anything.

I personally think that making the show available ahead of it's premiere was a bad move. I watched it for free on iTunes and decided not to watch it on tv. I really really like the show, it's new (those that haven't seen Alias, Chuck, or any of the ones that was listed in the actual show's review, etc.) and interesting. It's got potential.

The ratings won't be relevant until next week. I saw the premiere a week ago via Unbox on my Tivo.
