September 30, 2008

Taylor Crandall
Golf
West Hills

Crandall held off Steele Canyon freshman Marissa Borja to capture the Grossmont Match Play Tournament championship 1-up at Carlton Oaks. The sophomore entered the tournament having medaled in four of the Wolf Pack's five matches this season.

Aaron Harris
Football
Granite Hills

The Eagles won their first football game of the season behind Harris, a 6-foot, 191-pound senior running back. Harris' 303 yards and six touchdowns on 14 carries allowed Granite Hills to cruise to a 42-21 victory over Orange Glen.

Ashlee Schlesier
Field hockey
Torrey Pines

The senior was named the outstanding goalie of the Serra Tournament in a vote by coaches. She posted three shutouts in five games. In the unofficial third-place game, which consisted of just strokes, she helped Torrey Pines to a 5-2 win over Rancho Buena Vista.

Kristen Casey
Volleyball
Bishop's

Playing her natural outside hitter position this season, Casey looked more than comfortable against the tough competition in the Beach City Invitational. The sophomore tallied 29 kills and hit .306 with 25 digs, helping Bishop's reach the tournament final.

Jordan Jenkins
Football
Otay Ranch

The Mustangs pushed No. 5 Helix down to the wire, settling for a 19-19 tie. Jenkins, a 5-foot-10 senior running back, played a big part for Otay Ranch, pulling in touchdown passes of 38 and 30 yards from quarterback Juan Leary in the final quarter. The Mustangs have moved to No. 10 in the San Diego Section rankings.

Brittany Balcom
Cross country
Ramona

With a time of 15 minutes, 45 seconds over the 2.5-mile course, Balcom finished first at the South Bay Invitational at Rohr Park. The senior, who finished nine seconds ahead of Coronado's Annie Lovering, paced the Bulldogs, who finished first in the team race.
