High Schools
Northwestern lands Bishop's standout

UNION-TRIBUNE

September 11, 2008

Inga Orekhova, a highly recruited basketball player from The Bishop's School, has accepted a scholarship offer to Northwestern University, saying she will make it official during the early signing period in November.

Orekhova missed most of last season while battling to gain her eligibility after moving to San Diego from Austria. She averaged 15.9 points in 11 games, suffering an ACL tear before the playoffs.

Bishop's coach Marlon Wells said Orekhova was recruited by North Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Cal, San Diego State and USD.

The 6-foot guard, who is an outstanding shooter, is able to glide to the basket and is considered one of the best passers in the country. Last week, she was cleared medically to return to the court.

gI think the situation is a good fit,h Wells said.

In other high school recruiting news, Eastlake football coach John McFadden said standout junior linebacker/running back Tony Jefferson has been offered a scholarship to play at Stanford. Jefferson was a second-team all-section player last year.

gTony is excited about being offered,h McFadden said. gThey're the front-runner, but I expect now that they've done it, others will offer, too. He liked their camp and was very excited when they offered.h
