Sony reveals super skinny TV

Slim pickings
Thursday, 29 January 2009, 12:46

SONY’S LATEST TV seems to be suffering from a severe case of anorexia as it is named the thinnest LCD TV ever.

At just 9.9mm thick, or should we say thin, the Sony Bravia ZX1 is actually slimmer than a piece of burnt toast – amazing.

finThe ZX1’s thin physique is down to using LED on the side, not the back, which gives it that slim waistline it has been working so very hard for.

In terms of specifications of the more common kind, the Bravia ZX1 has a 40 inch screen, a frame rate of 100Hzへるつ and a pixel perfect image using Sony’s blur reduction technology.

The TV is also HD compatible and comes with one HDMI port on the telly and three extra ones in case you collect them.

Although thin as a stick, or perhaps thinner, you certainly don’t get more for your money with this purchase as the ZX1 will set you back a bank breaking £2929.

We urge Sony to bask in the glory of this super skinny crown while it lasts, as soon enough competitors such as JVC, Phillips and Samsung are expected to bring out even thinner TVs – so thin they might just disappear if you look at them sideways. μ

yep, and Samsung already has! It showed a 6mm thin TV at this year's CES show.

Sony tech?

Sony no longer has a TV factory. It gets all its LCD panels from a "join venture" with Samsung managed by "Korean". You need to wait for OLED if you want a Sony panel. Anyway a thinner LCD panel has minimum practical advantage, unless it is energy efficient and can be implemented in a laptop.

Really thin....Umm why?

I just don't get the race for thinner and thinner screens. I'm sat here looking at mine now and as I'm staring at it straight on, it could be 10mm or 100mm or...well you get the idea. It's a lot of extra cash for a load of old marketing bullocks. Just hurry up a fuse a UHD 3D display chip to my retina already.

Mr

Supper thin supper weak fat and heavy wall brackets? I have too agree with storm cloud above to what point is a thin screen going to remove the pixelation that you get with Sony screens I thought that the LCD screens where about who could create the best possible moving picture even with the weaknesses the LCD has like it changes colour when viewing from different angels and has a poor green Sony will you take note you are going down the toilet 2 billion most from the failed PS3 ask yourself do you think your thin screen is the right path to take but please hurry your time is running out my screen is about 2” thick the wall makes it 4” think when viewing head on its lovely
