INTEL HAS LIFTED the lid on its hotly-anticipated 45nm chip branded Core Bli7mey and previously known here as Nehalem.
The wibblesome web is awash with reviews of the platform Intel sent out to the eager hacks. We have one here. And eager we have been too. If not as eager as the many.
Intel's reviewer's kit includes two i7 processors, the initial top-end 3.2GHz Core i7-965 Extreme Edition and the 2.66GHz Core i7-920
A further offering a 2.93GHz Core i7-940 will also go on sale with the other pair on November 16th. Or you can order yours here. Or here.
The Extreme Edition chip's multiplier is unlocked, allowing the overcocky to have a fiddle, or suppliers like Yoyotech to do it for them.
The Extreme sample is downclocked the 965 to 2.93GHz to mimic the missing chip.
We mention Yoyotech as the outfit was kind enough to send us a humongous Coolermaster case to stick our Intel board and chips in. And a HIS HD4650 tipped up too
Intel included some Qimonda memory in its parcel - three sticks - and a speedy wee flash hard drive to fit in the palm of your hand.
All we need to do now is get the thing running properly and we'll tell you what it's like.
Meanwhile, it looks quite nice.

You would have thought that they would have done something about the idle power consumption. This is the most important value to estimated the energy cost. Shanghai will certainly be better in that area but it could also be the only thing that is better. Apart of the fact that you don't have to buy a new motherboard.
