GOOGLE and Apple are pants when it comes to protecting user passwords, according to a report by a bloke we haven't met down the pub.
Security boffin Robert Chapin reckons Safari and Chrome were the worst password managers that have been built into a browser.
Chapin hit the headlines a couple of years ago when he made a similar statement about the Mozzarella Firebadger browser. That problem meant that hackers could use the MySpace social notworking site to set up a fake login page to steal personal data.
Chapin, who is the president of Chapin Information Services, wrote that while Firebadger had got a lot better over the years all the browsers were far from perfect and users should not trust password managers as far as they could throw them.
He said that password managers could be tricked into giving password credentials to the same website and while Firebadger does not have that problem Chrome and Safari still do. Of all the browsers, Chapin reckons the password management in Opera is the best. µ
Password Wand!
he didn't test konqueror - which has the best results according to the people in the heise.de forums.
Save password? Who does that? Not I! Except in a bound composition notebook, which is NOT accessible from the internet. Hack that!
...I like Mozzarella.
