Cadillac Cimarron: Take Two
August 26, 2008
Cadillac confirms RWD 4cyl compact sedan
2012 will bring us a new compact Cadillac sedan built on General Motors’ upcoming Alpha architecture. It doesn’t have a name yet - and while Cimarron isn’t likely, BLS is a good possibility. It’ll be powered by a four cylinder engine and it may get direct injection and/or a turbo charger. A V6 is a slight possibility. This will be the new entry-level Cadillac luxury sedan.
This next-generation Cadillac small car will be built for the U.S. first - then Europe. A similar car built on the Saab 9-3 platform, the “actual” Cadillac BLS, has suffered from dismal sales due to Cadillac’s poor brand image and lack of competitiveness with luxury competitors such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

The Alpha platform has been delayed since GM’s financial situation does not allow for the investment at the current time. GM will reconsider an Alpha investment when GM is profitable again. Alpha was slated to underpin Cadillac’s 3-Series fighters, reportedly named “AT3.”
