Microsoft provides add-on for Firefox

Nibble Suggests completions
Friday, 30 January 2009, 15:53

VOLE HAS PENNED an add-on for rival browser Firefox which lets it show suggested completions of a person's search when they start typing it.

The move is designed to integrate Microsoft's Live Search into Firefox. The Microsoft search add-on uses Microsoft's search site to suggest completions. We guess it is all a cunning plan to drive Firebadger users to search on the Vole site.

Yahoo has a similar plug-in. µ

How nice!

How nice of Microsoft to give me the choice to install or not. I choose not to install.

Media Player

They even do a Windows Media Player plugin. IIRC it's developed by Microsoft's open source lab who by the sounds of the web site are locked away in the deep darkest depths of vole central and only given 486's with 128MB ram and Windows XP to code on. Fair play to them though. I installed the WMP add-on but I wouldn't touch Live Search even in IE7. Rob

I'll tell you what Add-On Microsoft SHOULD be building...

...a plug-in to view pages as they'd display in IE<8 s happening. At least that way, they could minimize the damage to their browser marketshare while the likely IE8 train-wreck smolders.

Evil Empires

First we have Google spying on everyone's browsing habits if you install the Google Toolbar. Now Microsoft will spy on everyone's browsing habits with these plugins. Might as well give them everything you already have. Will NOT Install Any Of The Above.

add in??

Why would you want to pollute a great software product like firefox with poo from Micro$oft. This is like add sh*t to gravy for flavour..

Rather have autocomplete

Internet Explorer's infinitely superior inline autocomplete system is one reason I won't switch to Firefox, and never enjoy using it when I have to. It'd be nice if MS released one as an extension for Firefox, but they'd also need to make one for new-window session duplication like IE's too. Either way I'm not compelled to bother to switch.

Oh come on...

And in the 4 years since its introduction there have been something like 2000 sales of this magic EU version, the reason being, NO ONE WANTS IT. Get over yourself, the EU anti trust case has absolutely nothing to do with anti competitive behaviour, its about "look what i can do" and "Mines bigger than yours" its a publicity stunt and thats all. Ill not use this add in thing because i dont need to, im not going to slag it off, ive not used it, just like im not going to slag off current versions of firefox, however previous versions ive used are crap compared to IE8, yes it does work before anyone asks. Will people please grow up and stop this all things microsoft MUST be crap, evil, spyware, bug ridden, etc. Its growing old and your just showing your immaturity and your nieveity

@ BB

Google's Chrome Auto Completion/Sugestion Function is by faaaar the best. Internet Explorer is slugish(Openning the explorer & Openning New Tabs to be more specific) compared to other browsers but I prefer Firefox since it works and is compatible with many things.

re Jumpinjack...

" Oh come on... And in the 4 years since its introduction there have been something like 2000 sales of this magic EU version, the reason being, NO ONE WANTS IT. " that's because Microsoft gave no volume discount for that version when offered to sale to the OEMs...
