HEALTH INSPECTION STARTED

Public Health and National Environmental inspectors are on the road starting today until July 20 to begin the first of annual six monthly inspection.

The purpose of the inspection is to encourage people to clean their properties of mosquito breeding grounds and avoid other health hazards.

Meanwhile World Health Organisation (WHO) has confirmed that there are no toxic chemicals in reslin used to spray mosquito breeding sites.

According to WHO representative to the Cook Islands Dr Kevin Palmer it's one of the safest insecticides on earth if used carefully. However Palmer said that reslin does not reduce the mosquito population. "It is more about clearing breeding grounds", he said.

Palmer attended the three day health conference in Rarotonga this week.
