EMERGENCY OFFICE SHIFTS IN WITH POLICE

Emergency Management Cook Islands formerly the National Disaster Mangement office will now be based at the National Police Headquarters on Avarua main road.

The shift from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) at Te atu Kura grounds was formally signed last week by Police Commissioner Patrick Tasker and OPM Chief of Staff Tuaere Tangianau.

According to Tasker the move can only strengthen working relationships and better joint response during times of emergency.

"We need those relationships to be working well", he said.

EMCI Director Charles Carlson says that working together under the same roof as police will further enchance response to any emergency or disaster.

Shifting EMCI to the Police Headquarters was a suggestion by Deputy Prime Minister Sir Terepai Maoate before the building was officially opened.

EMCI will be located on the third floor of the Police Headquarters.
