Edward Zwick (born October 8, 1952 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American filmmaker and film producer noted for his sprawling war films. He received an A.B from Harvard in 1974. He attended the AFI Conservatory and graduated with an M.F.A. degree in 1975. His movies include Glory (1989), Legends of the Fall (1994), The Siege (1998), The Last Samurai (2003) and Blood Diamond (2006).
He has been described as a "throwback to an earlier era, an extremely cerebral director whose movies consistently feature fully rounded characters, difficult moral issues, and plots that thrive on the ambiguity of authority."[1]
