Concept

Sign on Rosebank RoadA business development community is a partnership between local businesses and Auckland City Council. Its goal is to enhance the local business area.

The concept of a business development community is modelled on the Mainstreet programme run by Auckland City Council. There are 16 mainstreets in Auckland city.

The Otahuhu Mainstreet, established in 1991, has been operating for 16 years.

The main difference between a mainstreet and a business development community is that a mainstreet is usually only in a retail or mainstreet area. Business development communities, on the other hand, are designed for industrial and commercial areas.
