NewAssignment.Net Lab

This is where we test things, build them, tinker around with plans and discuss problems of practical invention.

The Lab will have ongoing projects. These are the most recent:

1.Readable Laws: A wiki dedicated to explaining Congressional legislation in plain English.

2. Beat Blogging: 13 beat reporters build social networks into their beats.

3. OffTheBus.Net (Currently Active). A collaboration with the Huffington Post to cover the elections with a network of citizen journalists.

4. Broowaha.com: A citizen journalism network where we will try and organize smaller and quicker projects similar to Assignment Zero below.

5. Assignment Zero.

The first attempt at opening up the Pro-Am model to the Web. This is a collaboration between Wired.com and NewAssignment.net. It is an investigation into the spread of open source practices and principles with a focus on crowdsourcing. That sentence might be a mouthful, but this is an exciting project that will rely on contributors from around the country to reach completion. To learn more, go to the about section of Assignment Zero here.

6. Polling Place Photo Project (Posted Nov. 2, 2006).

What is it? On election day, photograph your polling place and upload the five best shots to a national archive.
