Nadav Kander (born in Israel, 1961) is a photographer living and working in Britain, known for his portraiture and landscapes.

Kander grew up in South Africa and moved to London in the mid 1980s. He frequently exhibits his photography in galleries. Nadav’s latest collection of portraits, "Obama’s People", are exhibited at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery until 30th August 2009. This show will then move to Flowers East Gallery in London, opening on the 11th September, 2009. Also recent solo show, "Yangtze From East to West" was held at Flowers East Gallery in London in November 2008, and Keep Your Distance was held at the Palais de Tokyo, Paris in September 2005. His work forms part of the public collection at the National Portrait Gallery and the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. In the United States, his work has shown at Fahey Klein Gallery and the Peter Fetterman Gallery in Los Angeles and he is represented by Flowers East Gallery in London and Pekin Fine Art Gallery, Beijing.

Nadav’s first monograph, Beauty’s Nothing (Arena Editions) was published in 2001. The book was followed up with a catalogue of nocturnal landscapes entitled Nadav Kander – Night which accompanied his exhibitions at the Yancey Richardson Gallery, New York and Shine Gallery, London.

He has won numerous awards, from the D&AD and the John Kobal Foundation in the UK; Epica in Europe; to the Art Director’s Club and IPA in the USA. He was awarded the Royal Photographic Society’s ‘Terence Donovan’ Award in 2002 and was nominated for the Schweppes Photographic Portrait Prize in 2003.In 2008 he awarded the Silver Photographer of the Year Award at the Lianzhou International Photo Festival in China.

Kander has just been announced as one of the 12 shortlisted nominees for the prestigious Prix Pictet Prize 2009. The shortlist was revealed on 9th July, 2009 at Les Recontres d'Arles Photography Festival. There will be an exhibition at Passage de Retz, Paris, where the winner of the prize will be announced by Kofi Annan on 22nd October, 2009.

On 18th January 2009 Nadav Kander had 52 full page colour portraits published in one issue of The New York Times Magazine. These portraits (from a series titled "Obama's People") were of the people surrounding President Barack Obama, from Joe Biden (Vice President) to Eugene Kang (Special Assistant to The President). The same issue also included a series of cityscapes of Washington DC also taken by Kander. This is the largest portfolio of work by the same photographer The New York Times Magazine has ever showcased in one single issue [1] Kander is represented by Stockland Martel in New York. He lives in London with his wife and three children.
