Symbol of the Government of Canada

Promoting greater accountability, transparency and oversight in government operations is one of the Government of Canada's top priorities.

To achieve this priority commitment, INAC has taken a number of significant measures to enhance its financial oversight, audit and evaluation capabilities and reporting. These measures further support INAC's commitment to accountability, transparency and good governance.

On March 31st 2008, the Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians said that his department continues to demonstrate leadership in strengthening its fiscal management and performance reporting.

The requirements of the Federal Accountability Act, 2006 include specific measures to strengthen accountability, increase transparency and ensure oversight of the operations of government departments and guide the work of INAC's Audit and Evaluation Sector (AES).
