Apple may lower price of the iPad

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on February 8th, 2010

We all love a bargain, and with the prices of Apple gear being what they are, you would love to save some money right? According to Credit Suisse analyst Bill Shope, Apple executives have said that the pricing will be “nimble” on the iPad. It depends on the demand.

Now that’s not the same as an official confirmation that there will be a price drop, but it makes a lot of sense. If they lower the $499 price point they might actually have competitors worried. A lower price would certainly help any fence-sitters make up their minds to buy.

Amazon’s Kindle 2 now priced at $299

Posted in kindle by Conner Flynn on July 8th, 2009

Amazon's Kindle 2 now priced at $299How time flies. It’s been about five months since Amazon introduced the Kindle 2 e-reader. To celebrate, or maybe just to move more units, the company has slashed $60 off of the price tag, giving it a US price of $299.

Now that it’s under $300, they should be able to move more of the devices. The e-reader market is getting more competitive, so it’s a good move. Question of the day. Now that the Kindle 2 is under $300, does it make up your mind to get one?

Dell accidentally sells 140,000 monitors for $15 each

Posted in Dell by Conner Flynn on July 1st, 2009

Dell accidentally sells 140,000 monitors for $15 eachLooks like Dell has made a rather costly mistake in Taiwan. Apparently a promotional deal went online with the wrong price of $15 for some monitors. Within eight hours, 26000 customers had ordered 140000 monitors. Ouch!

The Taiwanese regulators are making Dell fulfill the order. It’s not the customer’s fault after all. The original price of the monitors was supposed to be about $150. After Dell changed the price, 471 complaints were filed and Dell will have to use the $15 price for clients who have ordered those monitors. Dell will try to apply a deep discount to some others.

Posted in Xbox 360 Elite by Conner Flynn on June 28th, 2009

PS3, Xbox 360 price drops coming this fall? One of Ars Technica’s sources says that the Xbox 360 lineup will see price shifts this fall. They also confirm that the PS3 Slim is still on the way. In September the Xbox 360 Pro (Priced at 60GB, $299) will be replaced by the Elite (Priced at 120GB for $399). On one hand, the Xbox is getting a price cut. On the other, the 360 doesn’t sound like it’s getting cheaper with a lower entry level price.

You’ll also be happy to know that ars has also restated their claim that a PS3 Slim will arrive this fall along with price drops “on the hardware that’s out now.”

Apple prepping less costly MacBook Air with 3G?

Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on May 27th, 2009

Apple prepping less costly MacBook Air with 3G?This rumor, if true, may be a sign that Apple wants to compete with netbooks or that in this economy, they don’t think that consumers will continue to pay a premium for the Apple name in the longterm. Either way, Apple may push the cost of the MacBook Air down while extending its feature set. Unnamed sources for SiliconRumors claim that an entry-level model will push the price down to between $1,300 and $1,500, or at least $300 less than the current model. Whether this would be a smaller model or just a price cut isn’t clear.

The same tips say that Apple will add at least an option for built-in 3G for wide-area wireless and may make solid-state drives standard on all models instead of a high-end option. GPS to locate the Mac is an option but “less likely.”

Sony PlayStation 2 rumored to hit $99.99There’s not much to go on here. Just some guy’s word, but there’s talk that the permanent retail price of the PlayStation 2 console will soon fall below $100. It would certainly be long overdue. The console currently retails for $129.99.

It was in April of 2006 when Sony adjusted the price of the PS2 last time. Will April of 2009 be the month they get it below $99.99? The images above are from a Kmart pricing system. We’ll have to wait and see what happens, but a price shift at this point would make sense.
