Jeff Probst Wants More 'Survivor' (But Not Too Much More)

Jeff Probst
When 'Survivor' host Jeff Probst renews his contract, it's usually for two years (which comes out to be four seasons of the show). But when he renewed his contract with CBS and the show last week, he only renewed it for one year (two seasons). I'm not sure if this is because he doesn't want to commit to several seasons of the show or if it's a negotiating/contract thing. Could 'Survivor' continue without Probst as host? Or is he too big a part of the show?

'Survivor: Heroes & Villains' debuts on Thursday.

Could Survivor survive without Jeff Probst?

Is Apple's '1984' the Best Super Bowl Commercial Ever?

Every year around this time, everyone talks about the best Super Bowl commercials of all-time. In fact, CBS has a special tonight at 8pm, 'Greatest Super Bowl Commercials of All-Time.' Apple's '1984' ad, which introduced the Mac, is often cited as the best Super Bowl ad ever. Is it? I love it and it's certainly in the running and iconic. Some people say this is the best ad ever, period.

Here's the commercial. After the jump, take our poll.

Got an extra arm and/or leg? Bet it on Conan's next move

Ahh, Las Vegas. That hotbed of sin and vice. That holy mecca of fleshly pleasures and the most basic of human instincts. The only place in the world that would give the likes of Carrot Top full time work.

Vegas oddsmakers have weighed in on Conan O'Brien's next move and Fox has topped the list with whopping odds of "-185." ABC placed second followed by CBS, HBO and the Internet. What? No PBS? Sure it's a long shot and the payout would be the entire known universe for a buck bet, but a bet's a bet.

So now that you know the odds, it's time to put your money where your meathole is...

What would your bet be on Conan's post-NBC move? (listed in order of Vegas odds)

Heroes returns tonight. Do you care?

HeroesYes, the whole "Heroes isn't good anymore" thing has been debated ad nauseam, but I'm still curious to see how many of you fans are sticking with the show, which returns to NBC tonight at 8 with a two-hour episode. I've been watching the show since the beginning and, yup, I'm in it until it's over. Does it have that new car smell of the first season? No, but I still find it (mostly) fun.

Will you watch it tonight?

Are you still going to watch Heroes?

Tonight's New Year's Eve special on ABC has a really long title

Ryan SeacrestEvery year we get to watch the ball drop in Times Square on New Year's Eve. A lot of people grew up watching Dick Clark host the show from a very cold Times Square, but in recent years medical problems have forced Clark to co-host the show with American Idol's Ryan Seacrest. But do they call the show New Year's Rockin' Eve or ABC's New Year's Rockin' Eve or New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest or maybe Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve?

No. The title of the show is Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2010. Actually, the hour before the big ball drop throws another word in there: Dick Clark's Primetime New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2010. The hell?

What was your favorite season of The Real World?

The Real World
The new season - the 23rd! - of MTV's The Real World debuts tonight at 10. I used to watch this show religiously, but that was a long, long time ago. I missed the first season for some reason, but I really loved seasons 2 and 3 (L.A. and San Francisco). It was actually compelling TV back then, before media-savvy young people went on the show just to get their 15 minutes of reality fame. So I probably won't watch the D.C. season.

So what did you think of Diane Sawyer's first night?

Diane SawyerSo Diane Sawyer took over for Charles Gibson last night on ABC's World News. I don't know how "important" her first episode was. She's filled in on the show before and obviously wouldn't suddenly start yelling expletives or start drooling. She handled herself fine (though if I want to see a chick read the news I watch Katie on CBS). What did everyone else think?

What's your favorite Christmas special or movie?

GrinchI'm the rare type of person whose favorite Christmas movies of all-time also happen to be my favorite movies of all-time period, It's A Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street.

We're in the middle of December now and we're all watching our favorite Christmas movies or animated specials (either on TV or via DVD), so I thought I'd ask which is your favorite. (I know, I didn't include every single Christmas special ever made, but that's why God created the word "other").

Seven questions about the Monk finale

monk_team_copsA few more questions about the Monk finale before it disappears into TV immortality. Just some niggling thoughts that weren't really addressed in the two-part wrap up.

1. Why did Joey Kazarinski choose to kill Monk with poison?
Joey was a killer for hire. He used a bomb to kill Trudy, but shot Dr. Nash. They never said how Wendy Stroud was killed, just that she was buried under the sundial at the judge's house. So, when the judge offered Joey another payday -- killing Monk -- why didn't Joey choose a direct approach and shoot Adrian? Or he could have blown up Monk's apartment. There were any number of ways to kill him, but poisoning the wipes was perhaps the most complicated. And a ricin derivative? How did he manage to acquire that? If it had been arsenic or something, that could have been bought at a hardware store. They never really explained the poison or the reason for that method of murder.

Would you pay $$$ to watch the American version of The X Factor?

Simon CowellSo I'm about to give Meredith Baxter a call and see if she wants to go out sometime, but first I wanted to post this story about Simon Cowell. He tells GQ that he's going to bring the hit British show The X Factor to the U.S. and set it in Las Vegas. But wait, there's more! He also wants to stream the show over the web as a pay-per-view event! He expects to get 30 million people to watch every week.

Who will win Project Runway tonight?

Project RunwayAre people still talking about Project Runway? It was the hot show when it was on Bravo, but it seems like more of a niche hit now that it's on Lifetime. Tonight is the season finale. Who do you think will win, Irina, Althea, or Carol Hannah? Not should win, but who do you think will win?

Also: did Christian Siriano give away the winner? (WARNING: THAT'S POTENTIALLY A MAJOR SPOILER!)

Do you still watch a black and white TV?

Philco TVI haven't owned a black and white television in 20 years, but a lot of people in the UK still do. In fact, 30,000 of them, according to the story at BBC News.

That seems like a lot to me, but I figured I'd ask TV Squad readers if they still watch one or not. Sometimes I'll watch a color movie in black and white (by turning off the color), to see how it looks and see if it gets any better (note: does not work with Pauly Shore movies).

Do you love commercials or are you just lazy?

freecreditreport.com band
Here's an interesting factoid: 46% of people who record TV shows don't fast forward through the commercials.

Now, I'm a natural skeptic when it comes to studies like this. I always wonder how the question was asked, the specifics, is the respondent lying or over/understating something, etc, but I often find myself not fast forwarding through ads because I'm doing something else at the time (writing an episode review, for example). How about you?

Would you watch a Heene Family reality show?

Heene familyAll this talk about the Heene Family and Balloon Boy and their hoax to get a reality show (and their appearances on Wife Swap) got me to thinking about something: would we watch a Heene Family reality show?

I'm sure that they are going to get some sort of deal from someone for a show, and there's a good chance they wouldn't have gotten it if it wasn't for this hoax, so maybe they'll have the last laugh. I think all of us, if asked, would say "there's no way I'll watch a show with that family!" but here you can vote anonymously. So tell me: would you watch it?

Is the White House right about Fox News?

Fox NewsYou may have heard that the White House seems to have declared war on Fox News. President Obama has even gone as far as not appearing on one of the Fox News Sunday morning shows even though he appeared on every other network that morning. Now other White House spokespeople are openly saying that the network can't be trusted.

What do you think?
